Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote has said that he will suspend his strong friendship with Yaya Toure for this weekend’s clash against Manchester City at St. James’ Park.
Tiote and Toure both play for the Ivory Coast, and together forge one of the most formidable and physical central midfield partnerships for their nation. The pair is considered to see themselves as ‘brothers in arms’ but are set to put this bond on hold
when their clubs face each other in the Premier League.
Yaya Toure has been a revelation for Manchester City ever since he joined them from Spanish giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604. The Ivorian powerhouse quickly made an impact in the English top flight, and made his mark on English soil as one of the league’s most dominant
and impressive midfielders.
Tiote has also emerged as an important player for his club, and is currently in the top crop of the league’s defensive midfielders. The player is the pivot of the Magpies’ midfield, and offers them steel and tenacity whenever he is playing.
The Ivorian is looking forward to facing his compatriot when Manchester City travel to Tyneside to face Newcastle. With both teams on opposite ends of the league table, the game will be an important one for both.
City will be looking to bounce back from their derby defeat against Manchester United and look to keep their title hopes running while Newcastle will be hoping to avoid another defeat and stay adrift of the relegation zone.
Speaking to reporters, Tiote said:
“I spoke to Yaya just last week, we talk on a regular basis, he’s very humble, a nice person. I grew up with him in Ivory Coast and I know him very well. I prefer playing with Yaya but I’m excited to be coming up against him.”
“It’s very difficult to play against Yaya. He’s tall, broad and very powerful but I’m looking forward to tackling him. I always do everything I can to win and I will battle with Yaya.”
The player then went on to acknowledge that he needs to work on his disciplinary record and avoid needless bookings which eventually cost his team in games. The player recently served a 3-game suspension after picking up consecutive yellow cards in the league,
and has promised the fans to be more careful.
