  1. My customary tip is 20%.  If the service falls short..........I tip less.  I would probably leave $65-$70 for the tip.  Many restaurants add the tip automatically for a large group.  Check your bill to see if it has already been added.  You might want to add a little more for exceptional service.  If your service is really bad, and the tip is included, I would ask to speak with a manager to adjust the automatic tip.  Remember that servers do NOT make minimum wage...they make most of their money from tips.  Therefore, we should all tip accordingly.

  2. Read your bill very carefully.  Depending on the size of the party or the size of the bill, gratuity might just be included for you.  Also consider the service you received.  If it was particularly good I would go with 18 to 20%.  If it was dissapointing, got below the 15%.

15% is the standard for tipping.

  3. Yes tipping should be about 15% in this case $50 would be quite acceptable.

  4. 15% is the tipping price i know it is were i live i think it is everywere i am not sure though.

  5. $50 is indeed reasonable, especially if the $333 included tax.  Here, the city tax is 11.5%, while in the surrounding counties it is 5%.  Because of such variations, I generally tip on the untaxed total.  And if you have a large party, do, indeed, check to see if a gratuity was added.

  6. OK service=10%

    average service=15%

    great service=20%

servers know this but customers do not unfortunately. it's a dissapointment to get 15% when you know you gave outstanding service, it's definately acceptable, but your server wants recognition for doing a great job, just like everyone else.

  7. That depends on what you think your service was "worth".  Did your server just do the "bare minimum"? Well, then your tip should  reflect that.  Did your server go "above and beyond"? Again, your tip should reflect that.  A tip is called a "gratuity" for a reason.  It is meant to be a thank you for a job well done. :)  I've tipped everywhere from 10% to 25% depending on the service I received.  Also, if your server did an exceptionally poor or an exceptional wonderful job you should *politely* let the management staff know.  If it was a poor job, they can fix the problem.  If it was a wonderful job, they need to hear who the "best of the best" is.

  8. Did you get great service, good, mediocre, or poor?  If it was good you could tip 20%.  Do you think you will go back, then tip good, (more than 15%) if you will never go back, don't tip much.

  9. Depends on the service - if it was okay 15. If it was good I would say 18 If it was very good 20 or even a little more.  Servers put up with alot of c**p and crappy tips.  There are people that treat you like an idiot, the people you work with are usually catty, some customers run you like a dog, customers get angry with you for things that are out of your control and to say the least it is not an easy job.  Used to do it - hated it.  I think everyone should be a server at some point in their life - it would make them much better tippers.  If you can afford the bill be prepared to tip.  I am not saying to over tip if the service sucks.  In that case tip low.  There have been times I didn't want to tip at all - never did that, but I sure as heck wanted to. :)
