Ok, I'm doing a lyrical solo for the first time, and I'm losing confidence. I'm have a hard time keeping up with the difficult steps. I have a hard time. When I video tape myself doing it, I feel that I shouldn't be dancing because I just look like I can dance. I look awkward doing it kinda. I cry sometimes because I don't want to give up but I feel like I can't do it. Do you have any tips to make me a better compeitive dancer and become stronger and a more beautiful dancer.

  1. just believe!!!

    try.

is it the fact that you dont feel comfortable with your dance?

because if it is, talk to your dance instructor, she'll understand.

just keep trying, dont give up!!!!

    :]

    god luck!

  2. yeah you def got to feel the music.

and dance the way it makes you feel.

my studio once to build our confidence, my group was in a room and they would play music and we had to express the way it made us feel through dance and we had tofind something in the music (like the voice, beats, different instruments) and we had to dance to that.

    then we did improv solos.

  3. The only advice I can really give you is keep practising. Lyrical is hard to master, because you must put emotion into the dance, as well as keep technique in mind. I did a lyrical solo last year, and it didn't do as well as my jazz solo. Jazz is much easier than lyrical because you mostly focus on technique (and a little bit of style!)

If you feel you aren't getting any better, you may want to ask your instructor if you can switch your solo to maybe jazz, or another style. Or, you may even want to not do one at all. If you don't feel ready, you shouldn't be forced to do it.

I hope this was helpful! Good luck! :D

  4. Well with lyrical you just got to feel the music. If you don't have confidence it will show in your dance and your facial expressions. My best advice is to just sit down and listen to the music you are preforming your piece to and get a feel for that song. Then once you actually start dancing, don't try to be perfect; just dance how you feel you should. If you mess up just keep going and don't be so hard on yourself. Good luck with your solo! You'll do great!
