When you receive a free/complimentary makeover, for example, from a cosmetic counter at the mall, and you are not interested in purchasing any of their products, are you supposed to give the make-up artist a tip? If so, how much? Thanks.

  1. I've always wondered this as well, it makes me anxious to have someone do all that work and then I feel incredibly guilty if I don't have the money to buy anything...

  2. No.  A tip is not necessary.   The "free" makeover is a form of advertising.

  3. You are not obligated to tip a makeup artist for a complimentary makeover. keyword being complimentary...but if you know you are not going to buy something and just want a trial, a small tip wont hurt if it your conscience is getting to you. when i get my face done i usually buy atleast one thing because in most cases, i love the result. like a lipgloss or eyeliner..you dont have to buy the whole she-bang!! lol...but you DONT have to leave one if you dont want to, i usually thank the makeup artist and ask her for her card and schedule to make her feel worthy although im not purchasing at this time. most MA are on commission so its not a big loss..
