  1. I don't know whether it's expected, but I'm sure it's not uncommon for people to tip a couple of bucks.

Our employees get tips for to-go orders pretty often, and we don't even bring it to the curb!

  2. since the person who usually does that is the host or bartender (and these people get paid a better hourly rate than servers) I do not give a full 15-20% tip like I would being served..  however they are offering a convenience service so I usually give $2-5 depending on the bill total and how difficult the order was

  3. You tip waiters or delivery people, otherwise you don't.  I stopped going to a small supermarket and a liquor store because they had a 'tip jar'. Its just bad taste.  Very often the money goes to the owners in these situations (ALWAYS give tips to workers in their hand at car washes, otherwise the won't see the money!)

  4. i work at a restaurant that offers curbside service. personally, i see how little work the curbside employees do at this place, and i don't think it's worth tipping for. IMO, they do less than the guy in the kitchen who plates dine-in customers' food and sends it out of the kitchen. and he doesn't make tips. they always gripe that they don't make much in tips, and i always have to bite my tongue to keep from informing them that they don't really earn it. :X

i say tip if it's an especially large or difficult order.

  5. I ALWAYS tip cash to people who bring me my food.  I know how it is to work in a restaurant and work your butt off 50+ hours per week.  I've waited on many people who run me around like crazy for small things, take up my table for well over an hour, then leave $2.00 on the table after it all.

Even if it is curbside service, that person is still trying to make money to survive.  Besides, if he/she isn't accustomed to people tipping during their curbside encounters, you just might make their day!

One thing I will note, though, is that he/she didn't have to take a whole lot of time to take care of you, so a $10 tip isn't necessary.  Just $2 or $3 would be acceptable.

  6. I don't know if it's expected or not.  I usually give a small tip - like a couple of dollars.  People who work in restaurants like that don't make much money.

  7. Although the belief is that the people that deliver your food curbside are hosts or bartenders that's not the case.  Typically the servers get put on a rotation throughout their schedules and one day a week they are put on curbside.  Since a server makes about $3.50 an hour (in my area- upstate NY) I always tip a full 20 percent.

  8. No, I do not tip for places like Applebee's.  I do tip at Sonic Drive-In or those Root Beer Stands where they bring the food to your car and you eat the meal in your car.

  9. i usually get outback to go. i tip $2
