Question:

Tipping for facials when they come to your house?

Do you tip an independent esthetician who comes to your house to do beauty treatments? I know you do at salons, but I assume they get a salary. What do we do when someone is working for themselves?

  1. If you're talking about Mary Kay, don't tip.  They just want you to buy product or join the team so they can suck your bank account dry.  If it's someone who is truly a licensed esthetician, then it's fair to assume that if she's doing outcalls (unless you booked her through a salon), she's in business for herself, so it's not necessary to tip her.

The verdict is still out as to whether it's appropriate to tip the business owner.

  2. Yes...its the right thing to do. Also, we work for ourselves and its a lot of work getting everything together, driving, setting up, doing the facial, and providing product/machines.

  3. Yes I would b/c they drove.  Same as you would a delivery food person.  Unless they factor that fee in already.

A lot of places charge a $10-$20 extra fee for coming to your house.  In that case, they've figured it in and I would tip if the service was better than average.
