  1. 15-20% for most people 5-10% for Canadians.

  2. The norm is what you can afford and what you feel comfortable with, we tend to get used to a barman for a few days then start giving him a Peso every other day, same with the waiters or waitresses, the guy down the beach who will save you a sun lounger and put it where your comfy with we give a peso everyday and for our room maid we generally take little bits and bats to give to her each day like toothpaste, toothbrush, nail varnish remover, nail varnish, writing pads and pens, books for kids, sweets, make up or any of those easy to carry small christmas pressies you don't want like socks, we leave all our toileteries and stuff like paracetamol and mossie spray for her too and generally give her about 5 peso too, contrary to popular belief you do not have to tip in Cuba unless you want to do, its always appreciated when you do though, have a great holiday.

  3. Honestly, they rely on tips to make their living and they all work really hard. It would be kind to leave a tip everyday. Generosity is up to each individual...but the minimum suggested is about $3 CUC a day for meals ($1CUC a meal), at the bar (not necessary each time, but once in the day is enough...and they will respond in kind to be helpful and serve you well too), the pool/beach towel attendant and room attendants. You will see gardeners as well working so hard. Sometimes they'll make a little craft for you made out of the leaves and just give it to you and not ask for anything. But I really appreciated what they did and gave them a little something. It was so unexpected it's worth it just to see them smile and feel good.

If you wish though, you can always leave nice little toiletries for the room attendant if you don't want to leave money everyday. It's something they can use and will appreciate. Just put a little note at your bedside letting them know you appreciate what they're doing and leave the gift for them. You will be guaranteed extra special attention.

Don't forget that when they change the CUC to CUP, they lose quite a bit and don't have the full amount.

You don't have to all the time though....these are just basic guidelines for amounts to have with you just in case and who tips can go to.

Basically gauge for about $6 to $12 CUC a day (depending on what you do ... more or less).

  4. Resort workers rely on tips to make a living.   My rule of thumb is to  tip a convertible peso to the server in the  buffet usually about every second day, the same  at the a lacartes where I have lunch, again a Peso about every second day.  In the bars I tip every day but not every drink.  To the beach man who ensures my sun bed is in my preferred spot every day I  tip a peso  about every second day.  Usually to  the towel man couple of Pesos per week.  Often forgotten is the reception desk and I leave 10 pesos for them to share when I'm leaving.  It doesn't hurt to  also give a few Pesos to the Client services  staff  who book you at the a la cartes for dinner.  Also,  the occasional Peso to the lady who is constantly cleaning the washroom I use near the bar I  most often frequent and also to the gardener I see most days reroute to the beach.  To my housekeeper I give 25 Pesos for the two weeks I'm there and I always find out when her day off is because I want to  ensure the right lady gets the tip.  Those are the guidelines  I try and follow.  I do believe that  whether you tip or  not service will  be good but as a one time bar owner, let me assure you when push comes to shove, if the bar  is crowded and you are known as a tipper someone will catch your eye and you will find yourself not waiting long for your next drink.

  5. Tip whatever you feel comfortable with  - and whenever
