I have planned a small wedding ceremony in Edinburgh (I am from U.S.), it's coming up shortly and I am clueless to the tipping etiquette when it comes to services provided by the : 1. Hairdresser 2. Make-up artist 3. Person conducting wedding ceremony 4. Driver for the day 5. Photographer 6. Taxi driver

All help in figuring out this matter will be more than appreciated! Thanks!

  1. we generally don't tip anyone in the UK, they won't be expecting anything, so anything you do give them, would probably be appreciated alot, but don't feel like you have to

  2. Don't know much about the subject; I've been told that taxi-drivers in London would expect around 15% tip.

When it comes to no. 3, could you tell us what we are talking about - a priest/vicar, or someone from the HSS, a civil servant...? I guess that info would help people to advice you. In Germany, you'd usually give a vicar at least 50 Euros cash, and it's sort of an unspoken understanding that he'll use that for charity, or some parish-related purpose (church repairs, etc.), and not for booze :-)

If you feel unsure/awkward about tipping some of the people listed, maybe you could come up with an idea for a small but nice and useful gift you could hand out? That might be more personal and avoids some of the awkwardness.

  3. In general 11-15% is the accepted rate for nearly all tips good luck.

  4. we do tip in england for good service actually.

    hope this helps

hairdresser depending how long she takes and how pleased you are..... roughly £5 -£10

    make up the same

person conducting not normal to tip them

    driver .....£10-£20

photographer usually expensive enough! wouldnt tip

taxi driver depends on the journey ......£4 to £5 adequate

    have a great day! x

  5. Hello... Well i look at this way.... oh im from england by the way....   If your paying these poeple with your hard earned cash then i would expect a good service from them. I would'nt tip any of them... make then earn there money... it's your day after all.. Have a nice wedding.. bye bye
