Tipping on Carnival Glory cruise?

Hi, I read on the Carnival site that they automatically charge you 10dollars per person per day for tips, plus they automatically add on 15% to drinks bills...does anyone have personal experience of this? Does that mean that people do not expect tips on board?

  1. the $10 pays all the wages for the crew on board so if you deny the tip then the crew don't get payed, simple as that. of course if you don't like the service then go to the pursers desk and ask them to take it off or reduce it. if you're more than happy at the service then put more on. if you particularly pleased about 1 individuals service then they normally do a crew member of the cruise award where you nominate the person in question. i would assume that this crew member would get a bonus

  2. The $10 per day and 15% are the standard amount that Carnival will charge the card that you give them when you check in.  What you give above that is your choice.

  3. Yep your tips are paid that way for yuor room steward, waiters, and housekeepers.

Bar service adds the tips automatically.

You can cancel your ten bucks a day at the Pursers desk if you like. I always cancel to auto tips, and pay them by hand, that way I know that who I want to get the tip .. Gets the tip.

  4. From what I remember, tips are included, BUT you can deny that when you first get on the ship and you have to go through a line and you have the option of including it, or you can tip at the very end of your cruise.  The night before, they will set envelops in your room.

We refused to have the tips included because, what if they did not serve well, never saw them or weren't there when you needed them?

We tipped those that we came in contact with almost every day/night.  We personally handed the envelop to that person.

Not everyone that the cruise line suggests to be tipped is actually ever met or tends to your needs.

We tipped the steward (room) and our waiters in the dinning area heavily!  I think $300 a piece.  We were very happy with their services.

Being in the bar, I really couldn't tell you because at night we were so exhausted that we really never went and crashed in our rooms.

  5. Yes, that "covers" everything. Like a restaurant 15% tip.

If you DON'T get good service- complain, and they will lower it on your bill (purser's desk). Of course, if the service is over the top great,  you can slip a bit extra to anyone you like.

Like most service industries, everyone has their hand out and accepts tips. The "standard" rate is fine, but they always accept more. NO, you DON'T have to feel like you need to pay more.

  6. I was on the Carnival Glory in April 2006.  The $10 per person per day and the 15% extra on drink orders is the tip.  You are not expected to tip above that amount, but you can if you want.

  7. Tips are included - anything extra is up to you. For example, if you feel your steward (or anyone else serving you for that matter) has taken excellent care beyond the amount already being tipped out automatically, an additional amount at the end of the cruise (the night before departure) is totally acceptable. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy the cruise.
