Question:

Tipping when using dinner vouchers?

I work for a resort in a major US tourist town. One of the 'rewards' that my employer gives out for good job performance is dinner vouchers that you can take to a restaurant and use to pay for your meal - tax and tip not included. Meaning that I am responsible to pay the tip and taxes out of my pocket.

My question is, is it appropriate to only pay the part of the tip that is figured into the bill, or should I be leaving more $$ on the table for the server?

  1. Good service, I agree 15-20% tip extra.

Not so good service, sometime no tip.

I think it is great  you have an employer that even recognises your good performance. Enjoy the meal you worked hard for I am sure......   :)

  2. Depending on the cost of the food I would tip another $5.00 or so in addition to the 18% of the total cost of the food if the service was good and you enjoyed the experience....just an expression of thanks.

  3. Dont be a cheapskate pay up when you people to be your servants. How do you like this very understanding answer?

  4. Just make sure you tip 15-20% of the ENTIRE bill.  It's not that much extra.
