At a restaurant, if you pay for the meal with a debit or credit card, do they automatically take out the tip? Or do you write it in somewhere? I'm so confused.

  1. Of course not.  Many people believe this and do not leave a tip.  This means that your server waited on you and actually paid to serve you, because busboys, salad bar attendants and bartenders are automatically tipped out.

Always ask if your unsure, but there is usually a line under your total that says "tip _____" and a line under that that says "total_____".  ALWAYS tip!

  2. last night I was at the restaurant and the tips was included in the bill, so it was fix and already included.

they gave me another bill to return my tips, i did not know they have already included the tips

  3. No, they don't automatically take the tip becasue unless you have 8 or more in your party it's not required to tip, it's expected

  4. Whether or not the tip is included in the total bill usually has to do with the the number of people in your party, not your payment method.

When the bill comes, there are 2 spots to fill in.  It shows the total, and then a spot for you to say how much you're tipping (optional), then the total amount you're paying with the credit / debt card.  If you don't leave a tip with the card, you can always pay the bill with the card, and leave a cash tip.

  5. at mine we ask if u wana add a tip if u do, u write it in, then server gets it right away.

  6. When they bring your receipt back after paying for your meal, theres a place to add a tip if you would like.:)

  7. you write it in... where it says the total cost for your food, right underneath it has a space for a tip, you fill that in, and then add your meal total with your tip, and write down the total at the bottom

    food.... 50.00

tip    .... 10.00  (you fill this in)

    total.......60.00  (you fill this in)

    signature............(you sign here)

  8. You put it on the paper you sign, and bring down the total, just to be sure.

  9. you write it in on your receipt, unless it advertises tax and tip included in the price
