I have been an at home mom for some time now to twin 3 year old girls and a 11 month old boy and my husband and i aggreed that i didnt want to go back to being a "working mom", the thing is i love baking and i wish to open a pastry Boutique one day. The thing is that i want to be part of my kids lives and not just be home fore dinner and holidays. Can anyone give me tips on how to start my business and stay being an active part of my kids lives?

  1. I baked bread and bagels mostly when I was at home with twins. Sold to orders taken at church and neighborhood. The kids went along on deliveries and even made their own little loaves during baking. We shared some fun times in the kitchen.

You can start building up your customer base while the kids are small, then expand when they go to school. Just remember there are going to be days when one or more won't be able to go school so you'll need to be flexible. If you set up a shop, include a kid's room in back where they can hang out while you work.

  2. Wait til they are at school? Or older?

  3. My mom was a stay at home mom and had an at home business that bought in a constant flow of cash.

Write out your business plan together and submit it for local grant money.  There's loads of money out there for women.  Get your "Safe Serve" certificate and your kitchen to pass inspection and get to baking!!!

  4. Make some samples and see if you can generate some business with a local market or store.  Try and participate as a vendor in your town functions.  How about getting in on farmer's market (although i'm unsure about refrigeration aspect).  This way it would be once in awhile and not everday.
