Tips For Trip To Croydon, London - UK?

This is my first time coming to London and would love tips on where to go with regard to where I am:

I will be staying family's house in Croydon, England. My understanding is that I'm close to Central & South London...considered to be the cities? Are those where things like theatres are located? Is there anything nearby? Is the train/tube service accessable from there and easy to manage?

Are there any football teams in season? (again with relation to being in Croydon). Lastly how would I get to Paris easily, and approx how much would it cose.

Unfortunately i get to trade in the dollar. :-\

the centre is where the west end is and the shops, and all the best restaurants etc..

well because of the tube everything is nearby really

camdon is a really original town to visit

Croydon is some distance south of the centre of London but there is a very quick and efficient rail link ... exactly which line and which station you would use depends on whereabouts in Croydon you are staying ... have a look at the Tube, Train, DLR and Tram Travelcard zone map at

however there is a very good shopping centre in Croydon - the Whitgift Centre

sorry, I haven't a clue about football

it's very easy to get to Paris ... the easiest way is to get the Eurostar train from St Pancras, see www.eurostar.com

The football season starts in mid august and the local team in croydon is called crystal palace who are in the championship. There are not any underground trains nearby but there are overground ones. You can reach underground stations on the overground line. Once on the underground (tube) it would be a short journey to central London where all the theaters, nightclubs, shops, highstreets and tourist attractions are.
