Tips and advice for American tourist in Australia?

Man, I am so excited to visit Australia! Crikey, matey! I'm gonna visit Australia, lad! Crikey! Anyway, any tips and advice for American tourists in Melbourne? I know I'm not supposed to talk loud or show off my accent, but anything else? Crikey, bloke!!

Try not to use Australian slang, and just be yourself.

Most Australians are friendly towards tourists and will enjoy hearing about the US and listening to your American accent, but may feel you are ridiculing if you try too hard to  speak 'Aussie'.

The main things to remember are that the sun in Australia is much stronger than elsewhere (due to ozone layer damage), so wearing a quality sunscreen is important if you are outside, even on a cloudy day.

Australians tend to be a little too relaxed about this, but it is important for people from the northern hemisphere who are not used to it.

Other than that, just be aware that although Australia and Australians look similar to the US and/or Europe, there are some quite big differences. Some will be pleasantly surprising, some just surprising.

You will never go wrong saying how nice Melbourne is, and how much you are enjoying yourself. Luckily, that will be easy because Melbourne is a beaut place and you will have a lot of fun! :-)

Be ready to be surprised, and enjoy the differences!

It’s unavoidable and has to consider that Australia has a diverse climate that can be harsh for those who are careless, or who don't prepare themselves well in advance for their journey. So while your tour to Australia, be prepare and consider all under mentioned safety guidelines for joyous journey.

•Always have a road map handy

•Keep all important contact numbers handy

•Carry & wear proper cloths, as demanded by climate

•Driving your vehicle safely, always on left side of road

•Do keep an eye on your gauges and remember to keep your vehicle’s petrol tank well filled and your water topped up

•Make sure you have a spare tyre and digging tools in your vehicle

•Be aware of wildlife, while hiking or forest driving.

•When you are at beach, always swim between the red and yellow flags fitted by guards

•Don't try to touch any sea creatures you may see. They may bite, sting and, on occasions, can be fatal

•Wear long trousers and boots if walking in forest or long grasses

•Drink plenty of water and do not forget to carry at enough water for your tour

•Carry enough money in pocket for any emergency that may occur

If you consider all above safety guidelines while planning your trip, I probably think you’ll have a wonderful trip to Melbourne and across Australia. well if you Must go to Melbourne youll enjoy the arts and the multicultural feel..at  this time of yaer youll freeze down there ..

Queensland is the place to see if you want warmer locations ..you can hop a cheap flight to coolangatta airport,which IS THE Gold coast airport,and you right there.

check out the theme parks if you want at dreamworld and stuff,seaworld too ok..but melbourne? ,maybe go check out the great ocean drive,nice scenery..have fun

I think you have kangaroos loose in the top paddock and you'll be flat out like a Lizard drinking trying to convince me otherwise.

Well don't say "crickey" because people will think you're a dickkhead - same goes for "g'day". Just be yourself, polite and have fun.  

If you like American football you should checkout a game of Australian Rules Football at the MCG.  They hit just as hard but without all the padding and protection.

I'm really glad to here that you are so excited. However, 1st rule- don't walk around saying- Crikey matey, g'day, bloke, lad, mate or any other Australian word. American accents are not suited to our slang. Also it will seem like your taking the p**s!'

First of all don't say crikey or make fun of our accent or a kangaroo will come kick you in the nuts (you know because they're everywhere - hopping all around Melbourne!).

Seriously we don't talk like that. Find yourself a pub and have 10 beers. You'll feel right at home.

And most importantly, just have fun.
