Hockey is a thrilling popular sport throughout the world especially in Europe, Asia, New Zealand and South Africa and Australia. A new player always needs some guidelines to enhance his or her efficiency. Here are some general tips for the newcomers who
would love to play hockey.
Important Steps:
1.    First build up your spirit and stay relaxed. Don't feel pressure, no matter how strong your opponent is.
2.    You should know the strength of each player of opponent, because it will become easier for you to perform well.
3.    Do not overestimate or underestimate your competitors.
4.    Know about the areas you are weak and try to improve them.
5.    Keep in mind to stretch before the game and between the intervals. Goalies must be flexible and agile to stop shots on goal.
6.    Always keep track of the puck while playing.
7.    Your hockey stick should be in contact with the puck and avoid slapping on it, as you pass it. Don't make any sound while passing it.
8.    You should not sway your stick in an arc when once you release the puck.
9.    Always follow straight line in direction of your target. While passing your puck if you whip the stick in an arc, it would be difficult for you to know the target place where puck will go.
10. Try to keep moving the puck among your partners for little bit long time period and add a turn after passing it.
11. Move the puck to that team-mate who is in better offensive position than you.
12. Never hit puck with rigid stick, it may bounce right off your edge.
13. Go to side of your field in the middle of the goal exactly before the goal line, when you are waiting for puck.
14. Stand in front of the net, when puck is on your side of the field and use as much of your body to screen the net. You should stand in front of net in an unpredictable manner, so that opponent could hardly judge where to shot puck to make goal.
15. Stand in a position so that you could shield the action occurring any of your side either left or right.
16. When puck is coming towards you, move your stick towards it and incline the top edge of the stick towards the puck.
17.  Another important point which a goalie should keep in mind is that just stay on the position to defend – don’t get involved in shooting the puck to the opponent’s field because it may provide a chance to opponent to make a goal on your side.
18.  Goalie can leave its place only, when there are no players to get back the puck from both teams. Hit the ball hard and quickly to your team-mates in an open area and take hold of your position immediately.
19.  As a goalie has an advantage of using his/her hands and body other than stick so, use your strengths fully as much as you can to block the shot on goal.
20. Move players away from the net so that your goalie could clearly watch what’s happening.
21.  Sometimes there is a lot of action happening in front of your net and all you need to do is to stop the play by covering puck with your goalie-mitt in your goalie circle.
22. The last but not least, tip for a new hockey player is “Practice”. Because only knowing about the game’s rule is not enough to become good player – rather practice makes a player perfect.
