I'm in the 8th grade and I've decided to start Track & Field. Season doesn't start until the end of the school year so I have plenty of time to practice. I just wanted some help since I'm completely new. Is there any specific training routine I should stick to? and what would be, like the appropriate shoes? any help is appreciated. :]

  1. dont ever buy nike shoxs you will be like 1000 times slower buy something like really low in height

  2. 1) You want shoes that have good arch support and that are flexible. You can test the flexiblity by trying to push the toe and heel together [upward]. Don't go for spikes when your training.

    2) Run some miles, slow and easy. Build up to about 3 or 4 miles. Not fast, or hard...just easy and flat.

    3) Maybe 2 times a week do some speed work, repeat 200's [we usually do 12 reps in high school but for 8th grade go 6 minimum], repeat 800's [3-6 reps], repeat

  3. FIRST of all i want to congrad's you, track is a great sport!!! the only thing you can really do; is to don't get injured....i mean it..like when i started track my 6th grade i was like lets run so i did and i was good and all but weeks later i got injured!!! it was horrible!!! even now that I'm a top runner in still injured but because of too many sports i do!!!

    anyways..so this is very important

warm up wisely...take ur time....make sure in ur first 2 months u include  about  yoga, aerobics, swimming, and try to run in grass .

take it easy...in the first 2 months dont increase your miles by 10%

the first week u should run 3 times a week ...an easy 1 mile and Worm up, cool down. and stretching.

after 3 weeks increase to 3 miles very  EASY walk if u want!!!!

by the 2nd month u will be able to do at least 5 easy miles...like walk them if u want!!

the 3rd month u can start on speed work and long distance just go slow

the most important thing is not to get injured!!! i mean it....

u can find all the info you need and many  tranning tips for bigginers at: runnerworld.com

i wish the best luck!!!! buddy keep it on!!!

oh and for shoes i cant help much becasue i dont know if you have a normal arch, high or low...but that site should help you!!!! good luck!!!

  4. First of all, before you start training, you need to decide what event(s) you want to do. The first and broadest categories are sprints, endurance, and throws. Generally for a pre-season sprinter, run 1-2 miles daily and lift weights. Start somewhat light, then build up to power while going into the season. Do everything; abs, arms, and legs.  Distance runner, just run as much as you feel you can/want to. No weights needed for them. Throwers, heavy weights.

As for  shoes, make sure you're not using basketball shoes. They have too much ankle support that can mess up your feet. Tennis/running is the way to go. I've been using a pair of Asics and they've lasted be a good 2 years.

  5. Track and field is a sport that requires some training. To start off join a track club in your neighbourhood to get a feel for the sport. If this is something you don't want to do then jog around your block  everyday to build up endurance. As for the shoes a good pair of running shoes is a must. You don't want to hurt yourself while running. A brand such as Nike or Adidas usually carries good running gear. Good Luck!!

  6. YAH

join the XC team, they'll whip you into shape.

  7. Hey i'm 15 and i did track and field my freshman year. It's alot of fun, great choice. It all depends on wha tevents you'll be doing but either one whether long distance or sprinter you can't go wrong with New Balance. Also ask your coach if your allowed to wear spikes and if so how long they should be. no specific routine, just stretch and go for a run, doesn't have to be more than a mile unless you want to do long distance. Or you can work really hard in PE. Hope this helps!

  8. .hi there, 've been in trck & field for 3 years

    DON'T WEAR SWEATS WHILE RUNNING!!

    they slow you down

always wear suntan lotion before every event!

    hydrate a lot with water

don't eat junk food , that will make your heart beat slower

before every event, there's a lot of pressure, so make sure to go to the bathroom before every event

get up every morning on the weekends and run

    good luck with everything

  9. hey you should ONLY wear sweats if its freezing! cuz you dont you can hurt yourself more! also i would just start but practicing what you want to do and if they have like conditioning do it. also my favorite running shoes are asics. and if you decide to start working on your own you should stick to it and dont stop. make sure when you go to meets you bring extra stuff all the time bring food, jacket, sweats, extra shoes (espcially if u get spikes), and a blanket cuz sometimes it can be cold and long, maybe even bring some homework cuz they can be pretty boring! make sure your shoes are broken in also that will be helpful! dont get shoes with shocks they will not help u. if anything starts hurting tell them RIGHT AWAY otherwise you can be out for MONTHS! also have fun its awesome!
