Question:

Tips for a Noob Girl to Motocross???

It's been about 5 years since I've been on a bike (it was a little honda, and I never took it on a track), and I won't even try to claim I was a pro at it. Anyways, I have been dating this guy for a while and he's really into motocross and I asked him if I could come with him when he goes out to the track and ride the beginner track. He said yes and actually seems really excited about it, although I'm slightly nervous about it all now. There's going to be quite a few people there, it's at night, and i've never rode with any gear, and his bike I'm pretty sure will be a bit big for me.

Any tips or tricks or anything to help me out, even if it's to just sound/look like I kinda know what I'm doing? For the record, I'm not doing this for him, it's something I would really like to get into, I just don't want my first time out to be a disaster.

  1. yeah for sure wear all your gear but my first day on the track only popped my clutch twice but i was able to jump 25 feet and land it on my firts day and my biggest thing i said to myself is i cant be afraid you see some people go over jumps they just roll them then you see some people in 4th gear hittind a tripple so dont be afraid thats what i told myself that and i ended up never falling and jumping 25 feet

  2. Make sure you have all the proper gear on so you are not as likely to hurt yourself but at first you will probably be going pretty careful so you should be fine.  Make sure when on the track that you know the rules of the track before going out.  Know what all the flags mean as even at practice a flag can still be waved at you.  Try not to wander over the track especially if faster riders are coming from behind.  Just hold your own line as the other riders know what they are doing and will pass cleanly as long as you don't do something unexpected.  Try not to look back when riding but look ahead as the bike generally goes where you look.  If you are looking at a big rut to the left then that is where the bike will head.

Take it slow and steady and ask your boyfriend for tips on riding as it will make him feel important.

Most important try to enjoy yourself.

  3. you just being interrestes in motocross and willing to give it a try  guarantees that your evening will not be a disaster.... go slow and only do what you are comfortable with....even if you go 10 feet and fall off he will look at you like a superhero.... the fact that you are doing this for yourself is proof enough that you will do well. now gear up and have fun...dont worry about wrecking everyone does.... getting back on separates the the girls worth dating from the rest....

  4. When you are in the air, you have to jump off your seat and grab the back fender, then, before you land, jump back on the seat and take your hands off the handlebars when you land for maximum coolness.

  5. Don't know what ur beginner track looks like or is made up of so can't give much advice on it. Maybe, just stay out of the deep loose stuff that can grab ur wheels. If u get there go to a little more power and that may save it/you from going down.

Disaster? I hope you don't have a real bad trip either, but  REMEMBER we DO LEARN from our mistakes and disasters.

You did not say hw old u are or what type of bike u had ridden before so do not really know hw much experience u have either. Been a couple of years since i rode too.But pretty sure I can give some of 'em a gud ride for their money and maybe shock a few younger ones too.     Listen closely from what ur boyfriend tells you, I'm sure he does not want you to have a bad experience either. He can tell u what gears to use when and where. Walk the track with him or have HIM walk the track with you. and learn to visualize.  Eventually, have him explain braking in corners, etc.  When and where to use the front and or rear brake.  You do ride with the brakes, too.

It's just like riding a big beautiful horse. You control IT , make it go when and where u want it too, to wheel and turn, also.. Too, like a horse it will take some leg control. And get ready to get use to "arm pump"  if u begin to ride a lot. Just another thing to work on. Maye hit some weights early on..

Nothing better than  a bird (even one  with butterflies) that  can ride..

Have Fun! And prepare to get serious.
