Question:

Tips for a girly girl backpacking Europe?

I'm thinking of backpacking Europe for a few weeks to a month this fall. I haven't done much research yet but I'm a bit nervous about only living off a backpack worth of stuff. I'm not a high maintenance girl by any means but I can't live w/out my flat iron and hair dryer. Any advice? How hard is it really?

  1. make sure you take a book with French/German phrases.

It's important to be able to express yourself in more then  one language!!

I agree with clothing tip above. Although Europe is so much more expensive then America, especially considering exchange rate difference.

Take some practical clothes with you or try to work out some outfits (like on for day in town, one for evening out, one for traveling)

    Good luck!

  2. i'm going to be doing the same thing this october...travel throught london, brussels, amsterdam, poland and finally paris and my best advice is the get ricksteves "europe throught the back door"...you can get it on amazon.com for like $14.  They have a special section dedicated to solo women travelers, written by women who have traveled alone.  I got some amazing tips from them, espically when it comes to safety!

They talk about not leaving your drinks unattended in bars, and a few other good tips.  If you want more, just email me and i'll quote directly from the book.  Or i can email you scanned copies from the book.

Best of luck to you, and maybe we'll bump into each other during our Euro trip!

  3. Try to find places where they can provide you with hair dryer and flat iron. You do not need to bring all your clothes and accessories along with you. Trust me, you will definitely buy some clothes and accessories along your journey. Wish you all the best and enjoy yourself!
