at the place i volunteer i usually have to deal with 20-30 kids that speak little english. they can range in age from a couple of months-12years old. they are there for three hours at the most. all of them are in one big room together. we have probably 3-5 volunteers helping out. we have two play kitchens, blocks, coloring and a bunch of other toys too.

i consider myself fairly good with the kids but i was wondering if anyone had any tips? maybe some mothers out there?? lol. thank youu[:

  1. i am a teacher at a day care and i can understand your problem. you could try to use hand gestures. if you want to play a game with them show them yoruself how its done and have them copy you.

or you could learn spanish. lol

  2. my tips for dealing with anyone for whom English is not a first language - LISTEN.  also, you can figure out a lot just from context, so pay attention to what is going on around you and them whenever they are talking to you.  and, if you can learn at least some of their language, for example, some basic vocabulary and maybe some basic grammar, so you know how they form sentences, it will help you immensely.  the best thing is just have patience and try to work it out.
