Tips for decorating an apartment?

So..I just moved out of my parents house with my best friend. we have a three bedroom apartment with 1 bath 1 den and a kitchen. We have clashing tastes when it comes to decorating. She likes sleek modern monochromatic and I like bright colors and flowing lines. We decorated our bedrooms fine but we are having trouble when it comes to decorating the den. We have a tan microsuede loveseat and chocolate brown ottoman....where do we go from here?

Well maybe you could compromise with monochrome furniture and bright pillows and decorations? If you both like a modern look it seems that you could find a way to meet in the middle. Otherwise, it sounds like you're just going to find things that you like and show them to her until she finally agrees on something. You could get some decorating magazines (or pictures from websites) and each cut out whatever you liked and then take turns looking through the others' picks until you had something you could both like. If that doesn't work, why not divide the den in half with a partition and each go all out on your side?
