Question:

Tips for dying hair at home?

My natural hair color is medium brown and I've had blonde highlights put in my hair for a while now...so most of my hair is blonde except for the roots. I got 2 boxes of Loreal excellence creme today at the store for a medium golden brown, I'm wondering what is the best way to go about dying at home. I've done it before it's just been a while. Should I cover my hair after I have the dye on or just leave it in the air? My hair is very thick and it takes a while for any dye to set it, so I don't want the dye to dry. Any tips for going from blonde to brunette at home would be appreciated...or any tips fro dying hair at home would work too! Thanks much! =)

  1. -Start from the bottom and go up. The hair is the darkest there.

-Let your hair rest for a minumun of 24 hours.

-Dont condition before dying. Conditioner makes your hair greasy. Just Shampoo

  2. i went from blonde to brunette and just did it the old fashioned way, just keeping the hair open and keeping it healthy with added conditoners. leave it in the air, because dye wont dry out in 20mins - 30mins anyway so it should be okay. mine turnt out lovely so no panicking!

  3. I dye my hair at home fairly often.  I leave my hair uncovered, but leave a towel around my shoulders (and try to stay in the bathroom to limit the places I can make a mess!).  Make sure you put some moisturizer around your scalp line to reduce your chances of dying your skin, and carefully wipe any dye that got on your skin after you're done coloring.

I've never had the experience of the dye drying out before I could rinse it out, but I guess it depends on how long your hair is and how long it sits in.  Make sure to use the entire bottle of dye to saturate your hair.

Also, when you rinse out in the shower, leave an extra towel out that is kind of scrubby, so you can wrap your hair in that before you dry off with your regular towel... just in case any dye is left when you wring your hair out.

  4. the thing is because you have two different colors in your hair, it'll show after you dye.  spots will be lighter then the other.  i dye my hair, and its super thick, but make sure you cover ALL of your roots, you don't wanna look like a tiger. you should also seperate your hair into two pieces (top  of the head as one part, and all the hair underneath as the second.)  make sure you have enough dye, i usually use two boxes.  and i usually put my hair up while i'm waiting for the dye to set in.

  5. i've been dying my hair at home for years , it has been many colors. i have long thick hair. i do not cover it , just let it be loose. also try not to get any dye on your skin , if you do just wipe it off before it stains your skin. make sure you leave it on the right amount of time . it's really easy. good luck !
