  1. Tell her that the sport takes commitment, and you have to have a good attitude towards your teamates, opponents, and your coaches. Hustle is key, if you dont show hustle to your coaches youll not make the team. At that age level coaches arnt concerned about ability, there concerned about who tries hard, and who wants to play.

Heres the uniform she will probably have to wear

Now to go out infront of a crowd with spandex, now that takes commitment lol

  2. At that age she must go to the academy...yeah you might think its ridiculous but is the only way to learn the basics and movements of the body

I went to at the age of 17 to the academy because I like the sport by watching the girls of my school...I said ..."I can pass serve better than them"  and when I took the ball to serve I got sad because I didnt knew how to serve...now in the age of 21 I'm much much better...and this year, I'm playing in the women's team...

So tell her to work hard and have patient ...if she really likes to play volleyball

    Good luck

  3. you'll be surprised at how many people will just try out for volleyball with no prior experience. (I did so at my school and went varsity after 2 years on JV.)

She should start getting in shape, especially over the summer which is a perfect time. Also, if she wants to try out, she needs to show that she wants to play...that she wants a spot on the team. She doesn't have to be an all-star, but she does have to show commitment and willingness to learn.

Positive attitude and tons of spirit/encouragement never hurt either.

  4. For a 7th grader, volleyball is all about fun, fun, fun... especially for girls. If she can find a camp before going into tryout, it is cool; otherwise, just show her work ethics, and she should be fine. She should never "worry" about anything.

The key is to make sure she listens to the coach, and follows directions. Some girls might be really weak and could not even serve the ball over the net, so if she can serve 5 out of 10 over the net, she is good; if not, stick to it, don't quit.

I have some boys and girls who were not drafted last year, and got into roster this year. I also have some who did not make the list this year but have been coming to the gym and actively involved in practice.

They are the future of this sports, and hopefully your "sister's friend" will become a good volleyball player in the near future.

After all, there is nothing to lose. Just show up at the tryout, and have some fun.
