Question:

Tips for getting receptionist jobs?

I am looking for a job and I would really like to find one by the end of the month. I have 3 years of college and customer service experience. My resume is fine but not horribly impressive. I would really like to be a receptionist/secretary at a nice office with a dress code and regular bank hours. Benefits would also be nice. Any suggestions on ways to catch the eye of potential employers, good businesses to apply at, or ways to get good jobs? Thanks.

  1. And avoid any agency that wants a fee from you. Legitimate agencies do not charge you anything.

  2. Usually they look for an attractive person with strong communication and computer skills for this field ( Also they prefer females ). If you have all of these , you have a big chance of getting the job at a reputed company ,and you may get to your goal.

  3. Go with a large company since there is room for advancement unless you are content with staying a receptionist (nothing wrong with that).  When interviewing dress nicely (in a professional manner) and be knowledgeable of the company.  Remember you would be the first person a customer or client is going to see so you have to be well groomed and personable because likely that is what the company would be looking for.  You may want to try some employment agencies to help in your search.

  4. Show up with an irresistable personality and wardrobe.  Remember, the receptionist is the "face" of the company and if you come across with confidence, professionalism and efficient organizational skills...you will win them over.

On your resume, make sure you highlight those qualities.  If at all possible, if you knwo the companies who are hiring receptionists, try and show up in person to apply for the job.  Unfortunately, though, most employers want you to send a resume or apply on line so you don't get that opportunity.

One last thing, write up a nice coverletter to enhance your resume.  Use power words like "efficient", "take initiative", "people person", as to why you can bring value to a company's front desk.
