  1. you are going to find

that you will have th most horrible

    part of your life there

  2. *Veg Food: *

I am vegan so I was definitely on the lookout- I often hit the farmers market, or loaded up at the grocery (Sainsbury's or Tesco are the common ones) at took food on the go in my bag, but look at http://happycow.net under london for veg restaurants and groceries, or http://www.veganlondon.co.uk/ is an amazing resource

    *Phones: *

This advice is US based as that is where I am from- but you could probably use advice comprably for India:

I studied abroad in London last year. A sim card from the UK wouldn't go in my U.S. cell phone (they are different shapes)

    You have 3 options:

    1) Use your US cell and pay the abroad plan fees. You can text in the US or UK but fees for UK would apply for the international factor.

    2) Get a cheap pay as you go UK cell phone- Carphone Warehouse is the best place for that. Super affordable while in the UK- you can call/text US- it is extra, but its all on the pay as you go- just use the country code first

3)If your US cell phone has a data plan- (for internet etc.) pay your provider the international plan for data while you are gone, and still get a pay as you go UK cell for calls. This way you have your internet but save money on calls

2 or 3 are the best options depending on your phone

Actual companies Vodafone was the one I remember heavily

    *Salons/Waxing:*

There are a ton of Salons, when you get there you'll see them or can check the phone book. Waxing is very common. Just avoid Bloomsbury Salon about a block from the British Museum- I got waxed there and it was torture- and I am someone who gets waxed regularly so I know when its abnormally painful.

Ignore the user who said it will suck- London is the best city in the world you will have a blast.

Its not so costly if you watch where you eat, buy lots of your own food, do the free or cheap touristy things, and there are books and websites on free or inexpensive things to do in London to check out.

    Have fun!!!

  3. Be aware that London is very expensive to live in.  Its also a very busy and not particularly friendly place to be in general.  When you are looking for accommodation, do research and try to find someplace which is relatively safe as there are parts of London which you might not want to walk around in at night on your own.

For waxing - there are many different beauty salons which will do waxing, some good, some not so good, but you will easily find a good one.

Vegetarian food - yes, you can get any kind of food in London.  There are supermarkets (which basically sell everything) markets for fruit and veg, greengrocers etc.  Also there are so many restaurants that you could eat in a different one every night for a year no problem!

Phone networks - depends what you are looking for.  The most used are 02, 3, and orange.  All the networks have different options including pay as you go, or monthly contracts, and some will include cheaper calls overseas (although you are usually better off finding one of the cheap numbers that you call who then put you through to whoever you are calling overseas).

Overall, try and have a good time and be open to experience the very different culture in London!  Its a very racially mixed place and there are so many different things to see and do!

  4. London is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Just be prepared. Bring a lot of stuff so that you don't have to shop there too much. Try visiting socialtravellersite (dot com). Hope it helps.

  5. Bring plenty of money, London is the third most expensive city in the world.

There are loads of beauty salons where you can get a wax etc. and most restaurants offer vegetarian options. As for the phone network, are you talking about mobiles? The price plans are pretty complicated, but they're all expensive.

  6. As another person just said, bring plenty of money, I was there last weekend and spent £300 in 2 days and that did not include my accommodation.

If you want to get waxing done, there are hundreds of beauty salons to choose from and you can get a full leg wax for around £35 but you can save money no this by going to a college and getting it done by a student.

You can get lots of vegetarian food, most restaurants have a vegetarian menu and supermarkets have whole sections dedicated to vegetarian foods. (Such as Tesco)

The main phone networks here are O2, Orange, T-Mobile, 3 and Vodafone. Personally I find O2 are the best.

    Good luck =]
