I have a football game tomorrow I'm very new to the game and I'll be playing center. I just saw film of our opponents and their nose tackle is much bigger than me, I mean this guy is MASSIVE. I would cut block him but I'm not allowed to by the rules of my league. Any tips for how to block this guy?

  1. who cares just go out and drive him to the ground. because he is big doesnt mean hes strong. im a small lineman but im strong and tough and i can take on some of our biggest guys no problem

  2. If you're dirty and think you're tougher than him, poke him in the eye once, seriously. You may get a penalty, but he won't come out you again with his sore eye sticking out like a sore thumb. But if you're not dirty and you just love football, (like myself) take you arm and swipe his, and will keep him off balance. Good luck man!

  3. i play rb and when a bigger lb comes at me when i block them i usually stay low and use my hands so they can be as far away as possible. But you never know he may be sweet, the first couple of plays go staight at him and if that doesnt work then use what i said before.

  4. stay low on your blocks and use your hands to try and keep him at a distance as much as possible

  5. You say that he is a nose tackle. That means that the opponents are using a 3-4 since there are not any nose tackles in a 4-3. I would suggest going to your coaches and asking them the best way. Normally cut blocking is about the most effective way to block someone when there is that much size difference. A lot of centers also just roll off the snap onto the ground in front of the tackle. Find out if you do this, if it would be considered a cut block. Since you have not engaged him yet and neither has anyone else, they might not consider it.

There is also double teaming him. You and the gaurd can double team him. Of course on all out blitzes, this let's potentially more than one blitzer loose.

  6. Have you considered trying out for Cross Country?
