Every time I try to do any type of turn, landing a double or even a single I hobble around or don't make the full turn. I land messily also. Does anyone have any tips for me, so that I can improve them and evantaully land a double? Thanks so much! :)

  1. Okay well... to do a double pirouette you need A LOT OF TRAINING!!! The technique has got to be strong also...

What helped me  a lot is this exercise:

-you start in your preparation for a pirouette position and do a quarter turn with tight abs, the wipping your head motion (spotting), bottom ( supporting leg) and your other leg in retiree position (your ankle to your knee) and repeat this until you reach the front again.

    - then same thing but half of a turn

    - then single and for fun try doubles, triples, quads....

THIS IS NOT SOMETHING YOU WILL GET MAGICALLY!!

you need to practise this exercise ALOT!!!

    HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK!!!

  2. K first before you turn you need to prep. Start in whatever position your going to start in.(i prefer 5th) Make sure you do a deep plie and  your weght is equally on both legs. Make sure your arms are tight and strong but not stiff. Also dont wind up your body or swing your arms you want to be in control of your pirouette. Then bring your leg in to passe and turn. Bring your leg into passe quickly so that it is faster and you can turn instead of slowly floating around. Have a high releve and keep your supporting leg straight, pull up and dont sink into your hips. Also work on your abs. The better your abs are the better your turns will be. Make sure to spot and just practice.

  3. Just a quick suggestion, including all the above, make sure that when you prepare, do not twist, even though it may give you more momentum, it won't help later on.

  4. like a pirrouette?

If yes then you can do the pirrouette prep excercise. start in second and go up to passe on eleve and hold it there for 8 counts. then go back down to second. repeat 4 times on both sides every other day. Also you can do the other pirrouette prep. Start in second and go up to passe and do a quarter turn to the right. then go back to second. then repeat this so your facing the back. turn to the other side, then front, using the same techneque. Then do the same thing except instead of quarter turns do 2 half turns. then end it with 1 whole turn. repeat on left side. (every other day for this one too!) Just remember...quarter quarter, quarter, quarter, half, half, full. I hope this helped!

  5. Do a good prep before (:

Then when you go up, make sure you find your centre and spot.

DON'T swing your arms like other people said. That just looks silly and it won't help you later on.

Be high on releve and make sure your technique is correct.

    Practice makes perfect!!

Once you have the turn, the landing will be much easier. I promise (:

  6. Swing your arm open to pull you around. And make sure you are high on Reh-liv-ay (sorry i don't know how to spell it.) and that your supporting leg (i assume you are trying to do a pirouette) is straight. Good luck!

  7. SPOT!

  8. I find it really helps to use the momentum you get from moving your arms. Also, squeeze everything - your butt, stomach, everything. It helps to tell yourself 'okay, I'm going to do a triple', because your body will be ready for a longer turn. You won't end up doing a triple usually, but you can land a solid double! haha

  9. Don't really know what you are doing wrong, but here's a check lists:

    Pull up:

    - your head is like being held on a string, not tilting backwards

    - your letting go of your stomach - need to lift the stomach, too

    - knees are not straight

    - arms are not being held on proper position - on 4th position of the arms it should be strong enough to hold an 8 pounds beach ball, and held in that position through out the turns

    - if your ankle is not strong enough for a full eleve, then only do a demi/half

You need to properly breath - inhale and hold as you turn.

I assume you know the mechanics since you also know how to spot. Practice first without the turn so you can put the movement in your body.  Then practice a quarter turn, then half a turn, to a full turn.  Don't whip your hand too much. For a single, all you need is to close your arm. For a second you can whip it a little bit.  A trick I teach and do for multiple pirouettes - for a double THINK ONE PLUS ANOTHER ONE; meaning think of finishing one then think of adding another one as you complete your first turn - at first you might not able to complete a double, but with practice you'll be able to complete it. (Same principle for triple - Think 2 then plus one... and so on)

Here's a site that best illustrates a good technique for pirouettes:

  10. Hold in your abs, spot and be in control of everything
