im getting 2 female mice soon, and my brother, sister and i each had a pet mouse about 7 years ago when i was 6. so i know all the basic stuff (clean the cage once a week, make sure to feed them, but not too much, give them water and a wheel ect...) but because im the youngest, i didn't really take care of the mice (and the mice im getting will be only mine, not my siblings), so i was wondering if people could give me some tips to make my mice as happy as they can be! thanx!

  1. You can give them toys, to chew on, so that that way the will have something to play in. You can just use the middle of a toilet paper role. Also you should get an aqaurium, Because they can't chew on the sides. You should put pieces of pipes or something in there, for them to crawl through.

  2. feed them cheese :)

  3. Do NOT get them a wheel.  Their little tails tend to get caught and injured, even cut off.  You can get one of those small rodent balls that they can run around on the floor in.  And when they come in heat, and don't have a male, they'll try with each other, so be prepared for that.  Handle them as much as possible, and give them treats (ie: dog biscuits or peanut butter).  They don't like cheese as much as everyone likes to say they do.  And they do not like the smell of mint.  Enjoy them.  They are a lot of fun!

  4. just do wt u were doin 7 years ago ad toys and chew toys etc and if possible try to handle them it is hard but i can do it with 1 of mine it takes patience that about it really

  5. well it really sounds like you know the most of it! :)

On top of their basic care i would just make sure that they have enough toys, sometimes giving them new toys or foods they have never seen before. Also handle them every day - one at a time and spend some decent time with them, just petting them or letting them explore a desk area or something, this will help you both bond and also help you recognise any illness or injury early :)

Make sure to check the cage for anyway escape routes as they may chew things. On that note make sure they have something wood they can chew!

Edit:  I would not get an aquarium to keep them in, if it got knocked over you'll have shattered glass and possibly hurt mice! seen it happen before! I used to keep my mice in large plastic storage containers with large holes drilled into the top, they wont be able to chew the edges and it should be deep enough that even standing on top of things they wont reach the air holes! This way they are really easy to move, most containers have clip on lips and when they get knocked over (my cat attacked the cage once) the cage wont shatters an the did wont come off!

this sort of thing - with air holes of course!

have fun with your new little family members :)
