I always tend to bring a lot of stuff when I travel. How can I pack lightly? I don't want to check my bag. Next week, I will be going to Jamaica for 5 days. How can I be sensible with packing for the trip? Any suggestions?

I want to bring at least 6 outfits and maybe about 4 sleeping items. Also, I do need to bring different shoes for each day as well as my ipod and 2 books to read. This is probably gonna be my main issue. What do I do? I can't be bothered with checking bags.

  1. This may help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7h0OfuQrC... I know it's really blurry.

  2. Bringing 5 pair of shoes for a 5 day trip is insane. The last time I went away, it was for two weeks. I wore a pair of black shoes and brought an extra pair of black and a white pair. Let's face it. Black or white goes with everything.

Two sleep shirts are plenty. You're only going to be there 4 nights anyways. You don't need more than 4 outfits, besides your travel clothes. Your casual travel clothes will be worn most of the first and last days.

Take only what you need in toiletries. Get travel bottles and only take what you need for 4 days. The first day you will do your morning regime before you leave. The last day, you will be doing it when you get back to your flat. Don't waste space taking full size bottles.

All this and 4 changes of underthings should easily fit in your average size carry on bag. I addition to your carry on, you may also bring on a personal bag such as an attache', backpack, shopping bag or train case. You should be able to get your books and iPod in there with plenty of room for drinks and snacks, of which, you would be wise to bring, as airlines have cut way back on complimentary niceties.

    Have a nice trip.

  3. I would lean toward things that can be mix and matched to create different looks.  Fortunately, you are going to a warm weather destination so you wont need to worry about sweaters, jackets, etc.  I would pack perhaps 3 bottoms (skirt, shorts, pants) and 4 tops.  Then mixing shirt A with bottom 1, 2 & 3 would make 3 different outfits to choose from and allowing you a choice of what to wear.  I would reduce the sleepwear to perhaps 2 choices.  For shoes, I would take 3 pair, the one I wear on the way and 2 more choices.  You can also pack clothing in your shoes to save space, lingerie and some shirts, skirts bathing suits or even some toiletries fit well inside shoes just roll them up (this saves on wrinkles too!  If you condense your things down well enough, there should be more than enough room for your books and ipod.

Also, most airlines allow you to carry-on one bag plus have a personal item.  If your purse isn't large enough to hold your books/ipod a small canvas bag would hold your purse and those items and would be considered your carry-on.

    Enjoy your trip!

  4. When packing use travel space bags. You can now buy them almost anywhere. 1 small bag can contain up to 4 shirts (unless you buy a bigger one) and then roll them to push the air out. You can also buy the bigger sizewith a vaccum hole. With this, use the vaccum to suck the ari out insetad of rolling. this will save you so much space in your luggage. When choosing outfits, make sure that you can miz and match them altogether. Like for example a cover-up beach dress on top of your bikin can be use to be a dress at night too. Just add accessories to make it look like a dinner dress. And, I hope you're not flying AA since now they're so strict with the carry-on luggage size. Hope this helps!

  5. Limit yourself a bit.  Bring only one sleeping outfit and two pairs of shoes (+ the pair you're wearing).  Roll your clothes up so they are cylindrical in shape when you pack them.  Check you're airline's maximum size for carry-on luggage and pack your items in a bag this size.  Good luck.
