I'm section leader for pit this year. There are 7 in pit and I'm looking for tips so that the season can run as smoothly as possible. (this will be my second year in pit) Thanks! I really appreciate any tips you can give!

  1. -show them respect, and they too, will repsect you

    -be dominant(enforce rules) but don't be too cocky

    -don't let them push you over

    -just be yourself. they'll like having a laid-back section leader, rather than an uptight one.

    -don't be condescending towards them, they aren't children.

    -let them have fun. throw section parties!! get section shirts! etc!!

    -encourage them to do their best. be a good role model for them.

    -make sure you know you can handle them. if you have any doubt, seek help from the director

  2. what i expect from my pit captains;

    1. know your part & everybody elses too (&how it all fits together)

    2. lead by example!

    3. have 4 mallet technique

    5. push for excellence!!!

    6. work tightly with the drum captain for the excellence of the entire line

    7. know all members of pit & their personality quirks,...be able to get their best out of them

    8. never accept "i can't" as an answer

    9. when you have a problem to take to the D.M., coach, or director----already have suggestions on how to deal with the problem!
