I have never been a competitive runner in my life, i have never ran a track event in any of my sports days so basically i have no experience. Next year is my last year of high school and i plan to enter the 1.5km as an event. Since year 8 only one guy ever wins the event and i thought it was about time someone else did. I was wondering if it is possible, if i start training now until march next year, to win the event. My build is very muscular and i have a large build for my age. My weight isn't good but i don't have a big gut or anything like that. So anyway, any information from people with experience would be great.

Thanks

  1. First you have plenty of time to win this thing.  Do you know how fast the guy that has won it the last 8 years ran it in? Well find out and make it your goal to beat it.

Next do wind sprints - Go to your high school track and walk around it once then run around it as you normally would, then last run as fast as you can around it, this will help build speed and endurance.  12 times around the track is 3.2 miles if the track is 400M.

Next make sure you have a well balanced diet, and you drink plenty of H2O.

Also a great website to visit that has great running, training, nutrition tips is runnersworld.com

  2. pfft 1.5k!!! thats nothin. i am 12 and for cross country we run 3k. And that is easy!

just run. when i get a stich, i put my hands behind my head and just jog. it helps, also wen u feel tired think of something infront of u, like.. icecream =).

    have fun.
