Tips for self-coaching volleyball. (high school)?

I don't have the money for a camp, though, I might join a free one in the summer, but if I don't I plan to teach myself.

What things should I do to practice? (Warm-ups, exercises, games, etc.)

Please stuff I can do by myself, none of my friends really play volleyball.

I am not much of a runner, is biking a good alternative--and yeah, i know you do lots of running in volleyball [:

Thanks.

  1. Well to warm up your shoulders absolutly ditch the ball down wards using your upper arms it warms up your shoulders, and will prevent injury in the shoulder area and also helps with power for spiking and serving.

    :)

  2. Try setting against a wall. That's always good.

Hitting against a wall repeatedly is great too.

  3. what you can do is get a volleyball and lay down on the ground and do some touches. also swimming can help with endurance. another easy practice is getting a friend or family member to through you the ball at different places and speeds and try to give it vback to them.

  4. well one, you need to start running more. Biking is good excersize, but not the same as running.

second, work out a lot more, especially your arm muscles and start practicing your verticle jump.

And just look up drills you can do on your own.

    There's tons!

  5. There's little you can practice alone, besides hitting and setting a ball against a wall. A good idea would be to focus on conditioning.

Jogging is a bad idea. I won't go into the science of it, but you want to do more explosive exercises rather than slow endurance exercises like jogging. For example, you would want to run short quick sprints rather than jog a mile or two.

More common exercises that would work for volleyball conditioning are: jumproping, lots of ab workouts, squats, and ladders

  6. I have played volleyball a few years and there are several drills you may do by yourself. Bumping the ball in the air and trying to keep control is one drill that is used very often. If you have a empty space and a wall then hit the ball against the wall and keep it going. If you have any more questions, then messege me.

  7. well first of all I would recommend starting to work out

especially the shoulders, hips, thighs and abs

those are the muscle you work the most when you play

abs especially since most volleyball uniforms are really skimpy and most girls lose weight to look better

    and anyways...

to learn to play I would go to youtube and watch videos like crazy to learn how to serve, where they serve from, types of hits and the   like

  8. Practice hitting the ball with both arms together (I forget what they call that).  You can also practice running side to side in a 1/2 squat.  These are the most common moves you will have to do and they are easy to practice by yourself.
