  1. Setting is all about your feet. To be able to get your feet in a consistent position every time, no matter where the ball is dug to on the court, is the quality that makes a great setter. It is also all about consistency. Have a coach show you where your feet should be in position with the net, practice stepping into that position as much as possible until you will never forget it! Good luck!

  2. well i never heard that it's better to be a lefty as a setter cuz you usually use both hands equally or else it would be a double hit or a lift if you get too used to it.....idk but anyways all you have to do is constantly practice good positioning of your body and maybe have someone throw the ball at you from the side because you barely ever set staight back to where it came from

  3. For beginners, you need to square up your shoulders to face your target, but for more advanced players you should be able to set from any position/stance (such as lying on the ground). It takes tons of hours of practice to make you a better setter, and hundreds of games to make you better and better. So be patient, and put your heart in the game, you will be very good.

A key point for setting the ball is to send the ball with an arch unless you run a shoot or quick-set. When setting for your high flying OH, you want to bend your knees and arms before contacting the ball, and extend them so that you can transfer all your strength from your feet, legs to your waist, to your arms, and fingers so that the ball can go higher.

As to why they like to put leftys at the setter's position, well, you normally want the setter set for the OH who is in #4 or left front, and your opponent would normally put two blockers their and keep their OH cover the sharp angle. Now if as a setter you can jump set, and you swap the ball with your LEFT hand for a dump in the last second of your "fake set", you could get a kill. In this scenario leftys got better advantage over rightys.

  4. feet shoulder length apart, shulders square (although that is not alwas possible) Always alays always no matter what position you have to put your body in, you should always always always have a triangle formed with both thumbs touching and your pointy fingers being the top of the triangle. This triangle shoud be lined up right between your eyes at the brom level. This helps cuts down on carries. Your arms should be bent as the ball comes to your fingers.... like caching an egg. and then extending them outward to release the ball to the spiker..........To practice lay flat on your back on floor or bed and just bounce the ball on your finger tips...at your finger prints, not top of fingers. There should not be any noise when the ball hits your fingers.

We like for setters to be leftys becasue you have an advantage of dinking or dumoing the ball (what ever you call it) but slaping the ball over the net with your strong hand. 9 times out of 10 a righty will be turned around and it is our weaker hand and hard to perform....

Keep practicing..... you will get it.
