We'll be taking a snowboarding trip in the next couple of weeks. i've been snow skiing before and really didn't like it too much, but i did enjoy riding down the slopes. this time i want to try snowboarding. in the summer I wakeboard all the time, so i'll be used to being in that same position with my legs and my torso...but how do you manuever, and also how do you stop? is it pretty easy?

  1. It is somewhat like wake boarding difference is you have more control over your speed. To stop you lean your body towards the mountain it is not incredibly hard to learn but you will spend alot of time on your rear probably the 2 days and you will be soar also. But overall snowboarding is alot more fun then skiing

  2. I snowboard a lot, and when I tried wakeboarding, I got it right away.  I was jumping my first day.  So I am guessing it would work the other way around, and you should be able to pick up snowboarding pretty quickly.

They are similar in that they are both boardsports.  You turn the same way, shift your weight the same way, use your edges the same way, and initiate jumps the same way.  This is good for you, becuase turning is one of the hardest things for beginners to learn.

The main difference is that you lean forward in snowboarding and lean back in wake boarding.  I imagine this would be one of the hardest things for a wakeboarder to get, because it is natural to lean back when beginners are scared in snowboarding, and if you are already used to leaning back, I imagine it would be tough.

You control your own speed in snowboarding, rather than in wakeboarding, where the boat controls your speed.  In wakeboarding, you can't go faster than the speed of the boat will allow you to go, while in snowboarding, you just keep picking up speed if you don't speed check.

It hurts more to crash in snowboarding.

Snowboarding in deep powder is the only time you lean back on a snowboard.

Snowboarders have a tough time in some things when going to wakeboarding too.  The rope throws us off a lot (spinning more than a 180 with a rope sucks for snowboarders), and it is weird to not have control of where you go and how fast you go.

To stop in snowboarding, you turn your board perpendicular to the slope.  You can do this either toe side or heel side, but for beginners it is easier to do it heel side.

  3. get ready for your butt to throb

that's all I have to say.

    good luck
