Tips for taking a toddler to the movies?

My kids (son is 2 months shy of being 3, daughter is 9 months) and husband visit the mall a few times a week to play in the kids zone, and my son has become obsessed with the Wall-e movie.

So today, we decided that we will take both he and his sister to the movies with the assistance from the in-laws.

I'm really not worried about my daughter - she's a content little thing nearly anywhere. As long as she's being held, she's happy.

My son is the average toddler. Sometimes his attention span is amazing (like the 90 minutes he sat on the floor watching "The Lion King") while other times it's a bit short (like the 10 minutes he spent watching "Finding Nemo").

We've been hyping the movie up all day, so he knows that he's going to see it.

What else can I do to help prepare him for the movie?

1) Should I get there early and walk around the complex a few times to get his energy down? Granted it's 89 degrees with 80% humidity out there!

2) We were going to try to bring..

  1. In addition to the tips you've already received you should also try to get there early so you can get a seat close to the exit just in case you need to leave. If it doesn't go well you may need to make a quick exit so you don't disturb other people.

  2. I would go to dinner before the movie so he actually eats his dinner. Just something light. toddlers do well at movies like that. No worries. I would let him experience the movie completely. Let him get a candy a small drink and some popcorn to share with you and your husband. He will love it and he will know what a movie is all about after today. Don't make him walk around the mall, he knows he is going to the movie and his excitement will not calm just because you walk him around.

  3. lol ...no idea ....

I am a single guy .....but i adore babies!

carry diapers....and milk bottle ...chocolates and a nanny to help you.

  4. I would make sure to take him to the potty right before the show starts, and try to limit drinks during the movie if possible, that way you dont have to go to the bathroom every two minutes.  That will ruin it for you and everyone around you.  (of course, this is assuming your child is potty trained)
