  1. p.b.s.kids.org ...treehouse for kids...not sure of the second one but the first is great....

  2. Starfall might be helpful.  How old is your son?  I work with preschool aged children and we emphasize the sounds of words all the time with our little ones.  For example, if I point out the word 'bus' I will repeat the b-b-b sound and comment that the letter b says b-b-b.  We might spend the whole day talking about b and looking and listening for b words.  They usually catch on pretty fast.  With younger children, they hear the initial sounds first so it's easiest to emphasize those beginning sounds.  By the time they are 5, they are hearing ending sounds and sometimes they hear other sounds in a word too.  Make conversation about letter sounds a frequent part of everything you do:  "We need to buy more m-m-milk at the store.  I'll write that on my list.  M-m-m-milk.  what letter do you think it starts with?"  If he doesn't choose M, get the milk carton, pretend you don't know, and when you find the m, laugh and say "Oh I should have guessed that because I know m says m-m-m!"

Also, keep in mind that children learn letters that have meaning for them first, so the letters in their name are always a good place to start.  If his name is Ryan, start with the R and emphasize the r sound.  Then talk about other words that start with r, like rabbit, rice, and ring.  Move along as quickly as he seems to be catching on, or take it slow and easy if he needs more time.

  3. it sure workd for me...my daughter is four but i must say her abilty to say certain things are great..like she knows past and present....she is a quick learner...i am teaching her maths and she got the hang of it..althoug she is in kidergarten i feel like she need to be challenge more...the same works she did in her daycare is the same things she is doing in K...

  4. Definately try www.starfall.com I started my 4 year old daughter playing it a couple of weeks ago and she loves it. She begs me to play it every evening and will spend a couple of hours on it if I'd let her. Only problem is I have to fight her to get her off the computer every night!

  5. Leap Frog makes a great cross media set of learning aids.

My son started with Leap Frog Letter Factory and Word Factory, then we found toys that reinforced what he saw in the DVD's.  The songs are catchy and we sing them all the time to keep it fresh in his mind.
