I have a paint mare she is going to be 4 years old in April.

I would like to have her trained in westeren riding.

I know some trainers yous whips and i saw what effects whips can do.

so i was wondering for a good barral raceing horse (since my old barrel horse died) what would be the best way to have my horse trained.

  1. I too have a 4 year old mare that I am going to do reining with. Have you ever considered natural horsemanship? if you google John Lyons horse training or even Josh Lyons. They have a lot of really good ideas and training methods. I really understand about not using whips. my pinto gelding that I used to barrel race was abused. Just take it slow and let your paint mare grow and learn. Remember that what you do with her now will effect her later on down the road.

  2. If your going to be doing the training you can get tips of natural horsemanship by John Lyons, Clinton Anderson and many other trainers. Take things nice and slow with her and dont push her.

If you want her to be a barrel horse you have to see if she has the heart to run. some horses just never want to do it, and i agree with you ive seen the aftermath of spurs and whips. horses arent ment to be trained that way and shouldnt be trained that way.

    good luck

  3. Sell your paint and buy a quarter horse!! Quite waisting your time on the paint. A 500 dollar horse is a 500 dollar horse.

What spurs are bad for hores????????????

If you people believe that sh@t. You don't need to own a horse. Because people that your kind are why there is so many bad spoiled horses!!! if you want a pet buy a bird,..

Clinton Anderson uses spurs and whips I've been to his classes. Lyons uses them also.... It's how you use them .

Take your bleeding heart somewhere else maybe S.F calf is where you people belong!!!
