I'm a beginner and started to take interest in body boarding.

What is the best place to buy it?

What kind of gear do I need?

Any tips while I'm in the water?

Any else would really help!

Also, people who actually are boogie boarders ,hear me out!

  1. Hey, well where do i start, first of all i recommend getting a mid range board if your serious about getting into it, i ride NMD but thats just personal preferance, other goods brands to consider are 4play,  VS and BZ, the core of the board is also a big deal, but for the start i would recommend you get a (PE) core with a single stringer, the (PP) is much stiffer and a more advanced lighter material, for a beginner you should get a cresent tail board...

    1) Dont listen to the other people who say hold the board with a hand on each side evenly down the board thats bull sht,  as u paddle into the wave u shld have both hands( probly one though) at the nose of the board but then when the wave starts to pick u up and push u, slide your outside hand ( the one closest to shore) back towards your hip, this is what u pull up on to hold your rail, and stop you sliding out.....

Just dont drop in on an agro stand up and ull be fine.

As you progress your going to want to boog bigger waves and this is when your prone position will become very important as it controls your original bottom hand turn and sets you up for the rest of the wave, giving you your speed and power heading down the line to hit a huge bowling air section.

If you want anymore advice on ne thing to do with bodyboarding, moves air etc email me

  3. If you've never done it and you're serious you can get a body board at most surf shops. They come in all different ranges of price. If you want a lower end one, try a giant sports store or walmart. You will want a pair of fins. Maybe a rashguard.

But mostly, if your just starting its about having fun and getting a feel for the board. When I was a kid the hardest thing was learning how to get out past the breakwater! A leash is your friend.

Don't go where there are a bunch of other boarders (experienced). Go where the waves are sloppy and just ride what you can. Surfing and boarding can be competitive when it comes to waves, and you don't want to hop someones wave or get in the way too much.

Catching a wave is timing. Hold the sides of the board and have your whole body on it. Kick to match the speed of the wave as it forms until it takes you and you drop in. You must drop in or you'll likely go over the falls. That's riding the crest over and eating it. Its bound to happen though. You drop in diagonally away from the peak of the wave if possible. But again, at first, just have fun. Go straight and let the white water push you if that's the level you're at.

I really don't know anything about you, but if you end up around other boarders, remember this: Whoever is closest to the peak break has the right of way. You're supposed to pull back and let them take it. Its not 100% a rule, but its a good thing to keep in mind.

  4. Keep your mouth closed or you may be tasting sand the rest of the day.  Happened to me many times, my hotdogs had a crunchy taste. Yummy :(  Tips in the water, don't lay on the board and kick like an idiot.  Wait for the wave, feel it pulling you in and stick the bottom of the board into the wave.  This will cause the wave you push you out in front of it and ride it for a while.  If you watch other people kicking to catch a wave, they often get crushed by the wave as it breaks on top of them.  This hurts and and cause you to fall off and lose the wave completely. Do not go out after a big rain/thunder storm, the waves are harsh and the undertoe is strong.  When you get better, this can be much fun as well as a workout.  HAVE FUN!
