Question:

Tips on a standing back handspring?

I can do a perfect standing back handspring without any bounce on a tramoline, and i know all the techniques used to do one, but whenever i try it on the grass without a spotter (i do use a spotter before) , I go back but then my arms bend and i pretty much collapse and i can't get my feet to land. I think I'm strong enough...i can do a pretty long handstand and i do lots of push ups...so am i still not strong enough? or is it just because my technique is bad? please give me some tips or drills to help me!!!

  1. Maybe you should try focusing mainly on keeping your arms straight when you jump back. Or you might be under cutting it or not extending back far enough which could cause your arms to bend.

As far as the technique goes, first you want to lean back as far as you can while staying straight, tight, and together, then just as you feel like you're going to fall backwards, bend your knees as if you were sitting and push back into a rainbow position with you arms straight and locked. You want to push/ block out of your shoulders not your elbows. I don't know if that's the kind of information you're looking for... If you think it's the blocking out of your shoulders that's the problem, you can try doing some shoulder shrugs and handstand shrugs (shoulder shrugs in a handstand) to strengthen your shoulders.

Sorry if that's more than what you were looking for.
