just left a huge social support network and family in orange county to move to Denver. I am feeling depressed and empty. While beautiful, the place is totally foreign to me and I am looking for tips on what makes such a move easier... suggestions on being happy. Thanks, Joe

  1. Just get out...go to museums, the library, parks, etc.  The busier you are the better.  Take a ride around...Boulder is a lot of fun to walk downtown or around the college campus.  Maybe head down to Colorado Springs and ride up Pikes Peak.  Enjoy the outdoors.

Check "yahoo local groups/meetups" ...and maybe you could find some people to go hiking with or happy hour or sporting events.  If you have a dog, that is a good way to meet people as well.

How do you like Denver? I'm actually planning on moving there from NJ by myself within the year.

Good luck, hope everything works out!

  2. Get out of the house and find things to do that interest you.  Find groups to be a part of like a church or something or find an activity you can get involved in like a bowling league, softball league or something.

You have to put yourself out there.  Also, take a map and while this is a horrible idea with gas prices being what they are, but go out and just drive around.  Pick a direction and just go.  Only use the map if you actually get lost but drive around and learn the area.  Another thing that can help is doing charity work.  You feel good for doing it and you meet people.  Look for something like Habitat for Humanity.  That way you do some good, meet people and learn about building stuff.  Or go take a class for fun at the local community college.  Join a gym... anything you can think of but get out and do something.  For me a bowling league helped when I moved.  I don't do it any more but made some good friends at that time and had some fun.  Best of Luck
