1. Relax. You're not going to be able to do your best if you're panicking. I know people that picture themselves being all warm and snug under a comforter to calm down (you have to really concentrate on the details, how soft and warm it is, how comfy you are). You can try repeaing "I'm going to be GREAT" or something shor that will help you feel better.

I used to be terrified to speak in public- or sing- or walk through the room! :p What works for me is to hold my head up, remind myself I'm just as good as anyone else (maybe even better!) and that I'm going to be awesome. Standing up straight is a huge thing - if you shouch, you re-inforce to yourself that you're smaller, and therfore less than the others.......

Remember that everyone is just as scared as you! No one is totally at ease at a highschool audtion - no one is somekind of pro - you're all just in highschool! :) And the teachers know that. They're not expecting you to be the kids in the film, they are just looking for YOUR best.

  2. Any audition isnt easy (well thats my opinion) afew things someone taught me when doing something that may be intimadating or scary.

    1) Put a brave face on

    2) Show that you really want the part

    3) Forget about anyone around you and if it helps close your eyes but explain to the teacher why you do that, this will build your confidence and help you to cope.

P.S If you want something desperatly, you will overcome your fears to get there.

Finaly, Practce alone, and then with a friend to see what they think, then 2 friends and so on.

Hope this helps you and good luck

  3. The first tip I have for you is to SMILE. No matter what you're auditioning for, if you smile it will help to make your nervousness less noticeable.

Be LOUD and energetic! Especially for a show like HSM, going over the top is totally okay. From a director's point of view, they would rather tell you to pull back than try to get you to do more, believe me. So be crazy!

If you're auditioning for Martha, try to choose a belting song, one that is in your range and shows off how powerful your voice can be more than how pretty it is... of course, you don't want to sound bad! But I think you know what I mean. Some good songs are Shy from Once Upon a Mattress, Cain't Say No from Oklahoma!... Disney songs would be good too, provided you can find one you can really pull off; otherwise it'll seem cliche. Try not to sing anything from HSM unless they specifically ask for it.

As for your nervousness... the more you get up on stage, the better it'll get. So just the fact that you are auditioning again is great! Breathe, drink water, and make sure you prepare thoroughly. Know that, even if you don't get the part, everything will be okay. Convince yourself that you are the best person for the role, and go in there with confidence!

    Break a leg!
