I want to be healthier by becoming a vegetarian. But I dont know how to be one!

Like, I know you can only eat fruits and veggies, but how can I stop eating meat? I LOVE Subways pizza subs and stuff. Are there any steps I can take to stop eating meat?

Also, what foods (besides fruits and veggies) can I eat??

Please help.

  1. Most BBQ Potato Chips are vegetarian- that can help with cravings.  You can have Cheese or Vegetarian Pizzas.

The other foods you can eat are: Bean/Cheese chalupas, Noodles (without chicken, beef, or pork flavor), Cheese Ravioli, Bread, Ice Cream, Grilled Cheese Sandwich.

  2. vegetarians eat everything except meat. you can still consume milk and cheese. when you want meat, eat cheese and spice up things. this is the problem for westerns, they only get delicious taste from meat, while asians and africans know which spice can give you a very delicious taste to the food you eat. and cheese can have a very exotic taste, try goat cheese.

vegans dont eat any kind of animal products, no milk, no cheese, no meat. not even sweets and other products that contain animal fat. its harder for vegans cause they need to take supplements and fortified foods, cause vitamin B12 and some other stuff is only found in meat and dairy products.

this can change your mind. all the food that is made to feed the animals or for biofuel, could feed all the starving children in the world. one tank of biofuel made out of corn could feed a child in africa for one year. cows are also one of the largest polluters of air and water. goats and sheeps are more friendly for the nature, they drink less water, they dont pollute the air a lot with flatulence (cows release lots of methane), goats eat mostly leaves and grass, unlike cows that require tons of grain and corn. it takes around 9kg of grains or corn to produce 1kg of meat. thats a lot and it could feed many people in this world. meat is also very expensive and meat production is supported with taxes, otherwise meat would be only for rich people.

I see a lot of good reasons to go vegetarian with goats. I was a vegan, except that you need to take all kinds of supplements and fortified foods to substitute the things you need.

  3. There are lots of things to eat besides fruit and vegetables, for example: dairy products, mushrooms, nuts, pulses, and cereals.

You could try looking at GoVeg.com.  They have lots of activities and features for people who are, or wish to become veggies. They also have a free vegetarian starter pack with recipes, advice, etc, etc.  You can either request the starter pack by snail mail or download a PDF.

  4. I became a vegetarian about two months ago.

And at first it was pretty hard for me....

You can go to your store and buy veggie burgers, vegetarian meatless deli slices, boca's chick' n nuggets. All of these stuff are made out of vegetables and they taste great. You can also try tofu.

To get more help you can go to PETA.org and you can get a free vegetarian starter kit. http://www.goveg.com/order.asp. This vegetarian starter kit really helped me out. It had some great recipes in it too! I think you'll like some of them.

Good luck with becoming a vegetarian!!

You can always email me if you have anymore questions about this!!

  5. Becoming and being a vegatarian of any kind takes dedication and can be difficult, confusing and frustrating at times. Especially in the beginning. You have to really want to do it, and that will make it easier.  You need to  do it at your own pace, some people have to gradually cut meat from their diet. You have to be willing to cook and experiment with different foods. Also you should not get caught up in eating all of the unhealthy vegetarian foods like candy, chips, deep fried veggies, and such. Before you start its best to be educated about it. You should really go to  Veggieboards.com and read the information posts there. It's by vegetarians/vegans, and they are the ones to ask. Also you can join for free and ask specific questions!! The people on their are more than willing to share info!! good luck!

  6. as long as your pizza doesnt have meat on it then its perfectly fine to consume... you're thinking vegan if you were thinking about the cheese.

  7. I started for my health too, but you've got to have other reasons too.  What happens once you become healthy? Start eating meat again?  I care about the environment, and the inhumane treatment of animals, so that's why I am staying vegetarian.

You can take one of two approaches to this diet:

    1. Just cut cold turkey.  Just make the decision to stop eating animals, and don't look back.  This is the way I did it, and it was best for me.

    2. Ease into it.  Cut out one meat group a week, or a month.  Your body and mind will get used to it, and soon you won't even miss meat.

You must realize that giving up meat doesn't mean giving up flavor and richness in your food.  It just means giving up cruelty (to our bodies, the earth, and the animals), and why would that be so hard.  I also love to implement tofu into my diet.  It can take on the same flavors meat does, and it is made without killing anyone.  Also it's pretty good for you too!  Go to Subway and order a veggie option.  I went to Costa Vida the day after I stopped and ordered the vegetarian burrito.  I barely noticed any difference from the regular.  Also there are many veggie substitutes as well.  With the growing number of the meatless population, most stores sell things to accommodate us.  There are veggie burgers, hotdogs, and even veggie chicken things, and tofurkey for thanksgiving.  At Chili's they have a black bean burger that is really really good.  You can eat beans too, and beans go in everything.

  8. Take it easy... Cut the meats out slowly.

Firstly cut out the red meats, then white meats and fish- when you have cut them out fully start to replace them with the vegetarian faux meats.

I shouldn't have used the term ''cut out'' because it implies that vegetarianism is limiting, when it actually isn't. Rather, you are ''replacing'' meat with alternatives.

It gets easier. There are some very convincing fake meats out there. You can find them in most supermarkets now and in health shops.
