  1. To be successful in volleyball, you have to learn to play your position. Remember that for every play, there has to be a pass. Without a pass, there is no set, without set, no hit. Passing is by far the most important skill. Learn that if you want to complete a play, you have to work for it, and you do that by passing. If you want to learn passing, you need to learn foot work, agility. There is so much to teach about each component, the way to be successful is a coach. For example a coach will teach you how to crossover and reach to get low to pass a ball, something a person on a computer cannot do. When passing remember to square to your target, and straight arms. When setting, hands must be diamond shaped, and smooth, cushion the ball and release, like a trampoline. You also must get position to the ball to set, so speed is also important. To hit you must have communication with your setter, where he's gonna set, and etc...Practise your pylos. This way you can jump higher and have higher contact of the ball. http://www.ultimatehandbook.com/Webpages...

Explosiveness and strength are components on how to finish the ball and crush it.

There is so many components to each of these skills, that only a coach can teach. So i cannot go through everything with you.Through a great coach, and extensive practice, I've learned to get very good. So I recommend, finding a team with a good coach, and after that practice. These things so far are only components of the gameplay. What's equally important, is communication and interaction with teammates. At all times you must communicate. Without communication a whole play is broken, and it is horrible. At all times you have to make noise, call for freeballs, cheer when you get a point, and huddle up after every rally, win or lose. These are all the components on how to be successful in volleyball. They all work for me and my team, and i hope you too. Good luck.

  2. Can't stress this enough - DON'T BE AFRAID TO SACRIFICE YOUR BODY! Do anything to get that ball up. Remember, the floor may hurt, but an ace hurts worse.

Make sure when you're receiving that you keep your knees bent and low to the ground, don't bend at the waist, that'll just make you double over when you're running to the ball.

Stay on your toes, literally! If you plant your feet you won't be able to make yourself go anywhere, if you're ready to go you can explode after that first ball.

Don't ball watch. Don't expect the other players to go for it, keep an eye on that ball and expect it to come to you. You need to be thinking "Right here, come on serve right here."

Be loud. Don't be a mouse on the court, no one on the court should be quiet.

When it comes to serving, take your time! You got 5-8 seconds out there (depending on the Refs, but nothing less than 5 seconds) Next time you are near an analog clock, watch it tick 5 seconds. It's really a lot of time. Take a breather, spin the ball a few times. You'll start to realize that you have your own routine each time before a serve.

Try to "spot serve". If you can get this skill down it's amazing. Say to yourself in practice "Ok, now I'm going to serve to spot 6, 3, 4, etc." It's a great skill to have especially if you realize one of your opponets has a weak pass.

Hope some of these tips help, and to recite the age old line, Practice makes perfect!
