Question:

Tips on filming a wedding?

I am filming my sister's wedding and I want to make it the best possible with what i have.

My camcorder is a Sony Hi8 Handycam Vision CCD-TRV58. I am going to try to get the best out of it. I am thinking of using Avermedia MEZUSBGDR DVD EZMaker USB Gold Video Capture with an S video Cable.

I can not connect a mic to my camcorder. The sound quality is ok but i was thinking of getting a digital voice recorder and put it in some flowers next to the paster. Then i would upload it to my computer and edit it to the video.

Any more ideas?

Thanks

  1. You might consider renting a 3ccd mini dv cam with a mic input and use a wireless lav mic with the appropriate adaptors. your plan will not achieve good sound and video is much better with 3ccd. use a tripod don't have excessive jumpy moves.

  2. use the camera as if it where your eyes ...with that, we mean that you should always keep in mind that the camera records everything the way you film it and the way you would see it ... move around SLOWLY...no need to rush things

Try asking your sister what she thinks are the most important things to film - to make sure you've got everythign she finds important..

Hope your sister has a wonderful wedding!!!

  3. Do not make the video too long.  If you make it hrs long, somebody who has to watch it will be mad at you.  <from experience>

My Mom remarried and his brother did the video.  He had a "well wishes" segment that was pretty funny and cool, basically 30 sec interviews and well wishes from party.

Try not to exclude anyone important.  It is hard to do, but you want a little video of all of the important parties, family, etc, and it is easy to miss someone if you are doing impromtu (have a plan, storyboard kindof, settup).
