This is the only reseveration any of his preschool teachers and myself have about him beginning kindergarten in the fall. I could use some helpful tips!! Thanks!!

  1. make it a game somehow and just start with the 1st letter,  not them all at once and reward him when he does a godd job

  2. Try showing your son his name. Write it down slowly and carefully and make it fun for him. Smile and have eye-contact with him, and slowly say his name. If he still cannot write his name, try talking with your doctor again :)

  3. Being able to recognize his name and knowing the alphabet letters is a great start. I would venture to say that he can write his name he just doesn't have an interest in it yet. So the question is how do youo get him interested in it? Active children (I cringe at the word hyper) need to have activities that are more hands on and allow more movement. Make a jigsaw puzzle out of inexpensive material like cardboard, posterboard, etc and put his name on it. Label his dresser, toothbrush, etc with his name. Give him a variety of writing tools, chalk, markers, crayons, pencils, paint, and a variety of things to write on, chalkboard, sidewalk, paper, etc. Another thing to try is sandpaper letters, get different grains of sandpaper and cut the letters of his name out of them, than he can "feel" the letters. Have a letter scavenger hunt. Hide lots of letters in the yard and have a hunt for them. Tell him to pick only the letters that are in his name and than have him put them in order. Get a T-shirt and let him decorate it and encourage him to write his name but don't force it. Sometimes active children just need a little more time. Praise every single effort!!!! Expect every result possible, letters backwards, not in order, etc. He will get it, it just has to be fun for him.

  4. How about getting to moddeling clay and forming his name in big letters? So he can remember that and write it?

Also my teacher had these tray things with letters inprinted in them and you put a marble in it and it would go around the letter. You could get one of them?

    Any help with mine? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

  5. Make his name out of other things- letter magnets, play doh, stickers, with a stick in the sand,  etc. . .

When you practice writing, make it quick and painless practice. Start by writing all of his name except the last letter and have him help form the last letter to finish it.  Praise him and encourage him. Gradually fade back 1 letter at  a time until he is writing his whole name. Keep it fun and low pressure.

  6. then try and match the letters of his name with things he likes like say he likes rhinos,yo' yos, ants, and new toys and his name is ryan then tell him that the r stands for rhino ans so on have him do each letter then draw a picture to go with each letter put it somewhere were he will see it every day like across from his bed on the bathroom mirror whatever also it might help to put his name on his belongings like his lunch box and all his clothes on his favorite toy anything. but i don't have any children and i don't actually remember how i learned to write my name so ya. Good Luck!

  7. Start by emphasizing only the first letter.  Have him trace over it.  Some students are scared to just try.  Ask him if he wants you to help him to hold the pencil from behind.  Remember he will naturally write his name fairly large.  Don't try to change the size issue yet.

Hopefully, he can do circles, straight lines, etc on his own by this point.

For the letters sequencing, I would purchase a pack of letter cards or make them from home.  Have him put them in order a couple times a day.  He's needs to learn that letter sequencing is very important.  Once he has that down pat, then I would introduce a couple of "extra" letters  to the deck of cards.

  8. All of the creative ways listed so far are great! I can only add...

    1. Play-dough letters are awesome fun

    2. Stamp letters are a big hit

    3. Magnet letters

    4. Magna Doodles

    5. Spread shaving cream all over the table and let him draw in it with different objects or even just a finger

You get the Picture... and don't worry about it he will do it when he wants to and when he needs to. Sitting down writing with a pencil and paper can be really boring at his age... spice it up a bit that's all. If he knows his letters and can recognize his name I wouldn't worry about it.

Question though... does he draw, color, how are his fine motor skills?

  9. have you tried writing his name with him?

I'm assuming he knows the alphabet right?

try keeping his name posted in his room somewhere, he'll learn by looking at it all day

those are guesses thoguh, I'm not a child expert

  10. Look, no child is hyper unless the environment is hyper. When children live in healthy house, they can focus on themselves and start developing their own personality. But when they have to deal with things outside their control, they become out of control as well. What you need to do as a parent is to make it fun for him to write his name. Give him a quite setting, give him all of your attention, turn off the TV, Cell-phone, and PC. Sit with him. Help him do drawings which includes his name. Tell him what you would give him a surprise if he writes his name. Listen, when you are not physically involved in his abilities, your words only do nothing. Show him you care by doing art works with him and put it on the wall. Show him how happy you are about his works. He will grow up to be a great person.

  11. Write it in yellow highlighter and have him trace it - each day, leave off one letter and see if he can remember which one is missing -before long, he'll be writing the whole thing. good luck.  Make it fun and he'll enjoy learning.

  12. post his name everywere pronounce his name help him spell it until he gets the pronounsiation right or alphabet

  13. This is A First you write The letter A then let your son try it Make a chat first watch what i do !
