Question:

Tips on going Veg Cold Turkey? (so to speak) lol?

Yesterday I made the final decision to become a vegetarian. It's more for a health reason than anything else. The way I work with anything is that if I don't dive right into it, it will never happen. I began eating totally vegetarian today. I know it will be hard, because my family is a die hard meat loving family of hunters, but I really want to stick to my guns.

Does anyone have any tips on how to go vegetarian cold turkey? Special things I should watch out for?

I really want to do this, and I have to do it cold turkey. I know a lot of people probably went through this, so I wanted some tips/advice. Anything is appreciated!!!

  1. You're going to get ridiculed by people who you always thought would support you through anything.  Just giving you a heads up.  Don't let them sway you though.  It's your decision and you're helping the world by it.

  2. Cold Tofurkey? Be prepared for some ribbing and straight out abuse, from family and friends. Being a vego among carnivores can be tough. They pretend to enjoy their meat more in your presence, try to trick you into eating meat (like offering you an ostensible veggie sandwich with a chicken nugget tucked inside). As you say stick to your guns, but don't beat yourself up if you lapse. Plan your meals so your not caught out as your more likely to lapse if your hungry and your only option is fast food.

  3. First, props to you for going veg.  It's an awesome way to live, and you'll never regret it.

How to do it?  Just do it.

Get yourself a couple of great cookbooks, and get cracking and creative in the kitchen.  So long as you're eating a wide variety of colourful fruits and vegetables (LOTS of 'em), some tasty beans and legumes, soy foods as you like them, and delicious whole grains, you'll get the nutrition you need no problem and stay satisfied.

Don't dwell on the nay-sayers - there will always be people who think you're wrong/insane for being vegetarian, so just ignore 'em.  You know in your heart that this is right, and all the medical evidence supports that vegetarians are healthier than non-vegetarians, so be veg and be proud!

    Best of luck!
