  1. You can also over inflate your tires slightly (2-5 PSI)

  2. Reduce your speed.  You use twice as much gas going 75 as you do going 55.  Basically, if you're exceeding the speed limit, bring it down a bit.

Llimit jackrabbit acceleration and sudden stops.  The more steady your speed, the more efficient you'll be.

Anticipate stops.  Rather than going right from the accelerator to the brake, allow some coast time before coming to a smooth stop.

Learn the traffic lights on your commute and try to time yourself so you never have to stop at a light.

Combine trips, plan your route to minimize left turns at busy intersections.

Park at the back of the parking lot rather than wasting a lot of gas (and time) trying to find the closest possible parking space.

Walk or ride a bike whenever possible

If you own multiple vehicles, use the most efficient one whenever possible.  If buying a vehicle, consider downsizing and consult http://www.fueleconomy.gov

Did I mention watching your speed?

  3. oh the usual; slow down, use the cruise control, pack only what you need to keep the weight down, get the tires inflation to their proper specs, take a fuel efficient car over that suv, drive at night b/c cooler weather lets the car run better (the cooling fan won't kick on putting drag on the engine), driving at night is easier on everyone b/c you don't have to use the a/c, & the list goes on...
