The whole 'sad memory/thought' thing won't budge me usually, because I can't talk and think at the same time. I know, dumb. I really need a way to give me the sniffles more than anything. Help?

  1. if you stare at something without blinking you will get tears

  2. Cut some onions.  That might at least get the ball rolling, figuratively speaking.

  3. If it's for an audition, than maybe you should really study the character. If you really feel it deep down, the emotion will come. You need to find some aspect that you can relate to the character on.

If it's for something fun like an acting class or indie flick, than go with what special effects make up artists use, it's pretty cheap.

I had to film a dying scene in which I was crying in the desert in 110 degree weather, which didn't work out because my tears were drying up on my cheeks as they came out, so the make up artist pulled out a little bottle, and BAM! cinematic gold! lol

You could go a step further and do smeared mascara etc, if you need to be really dramatic.

Thoroughly memorizing what you want to say is key, because than it will be second nature and you can focus on the release of emotions.

However, if it's a prank or seriously dire than you should reconsider where your priorities are and stop trying to manipulate people, it's only going to hurt you in the end.

    Hope this helps! : )

  4. Toothpaste under the eyes works great.

    Onions also.

If you're on stage though, they're are professional sticks that some actors use to get their eyes to water/cry.
