  1. I'm no expert, but when I first went skating I was the same. I couldnt move my feet at all.

Use the barrier to start with, it will give you stability while you get used to wearing skates on ice. It's quite strange first few times.

Watch people. Look at someone that can skate by themselves. Try to copy the way they move, they way they move their legs and feet. I did this and before long I was moving in the same way as them.

Do not lean backwards, it's easy to fall that way. And if you are wearing figure skates then dont skate on you toes.

Just keep trying, it does take practice.

Have fun, I hope this helps=)

PS If you are wearing rentals you might want to wear two pairs of socks. Very often rentals can hurt and blister people's feet.

  2. Make sure your boots are done up really right and are well fitting.

    Good luck

  3. Bobby G's answer seems pretty good, the only other thing i would mention is that you should relax and enjoy yourself and not worry how stupid you look infront of everyone else. And if you're really stuck you could always ask one of the rinks supervisor type people for assistance, i'm sure they would be happy to help!
