  1. Visit the daveramsey.com website. Dave can give you great tips on saving money and getting out of debt. Also try couponmom.com for coupons and other great savings for groceries and necessities. Ditto what the pp said, set aside a little each paycheck in your savings and don't touch it (this is called paying yourself first). Also check out thenest.com and visit the money market boards for some excellent tips from ladies who were once in your boat. Hope this helps and good luck!!

  2. dont eat out much, you can find cheap steaks at Aldi's

bring water with you, dont buy it bottled for $2

make your own coffee, dont go to Dunkin Donuts for $2

walk/ride bikes more, good exercise & saves gas

some price chopper locations work together with sunoco to provide very large discounts on gas, look into that

trac phones are not a bad option. fancy cell phones are really not as important as modern society seems to think they are.

  3. First of all, do you have a savings account?  Put away $50 a month into this account if you can or more or less.  Every penny helps.  I always take my spare coins and put them in a jar, and instead of using them I just use bills.  By the end of the month, you can have a lot of money stashed away in coins.  Things to cut back on....just buy things that are a  necessity for you and your boy.  Cut back on your phone or tv plan.....just pay for the basics.  If you have a cell phone, buy a prepaid phone card instead of paying for a plan (if you are not stuck in a plan).  When buying groceries, cut out the coupons from the flyers and make a list of what items are on sale and go to 3 different stores if you have to.  Try to do things with your son that doesn't require money..like playing at the park, etc.  It's a tough world these days...I understand where you are coming from.  And it's easier said than done to try to do all of these things.  I wish you the best!

  4. Look at you fixed expenses, phone, cable, insurance, etc. There are things you can do like make sure you are not paying for things that you dont use, cut the phone to basics just the phone line, cut cable off or to the vary basic cable, increase your deductable on you car insurance and home if you have that, this decreases the monthly payment. If things are really tight you may have to look at cutting some of the fixed expenses completely, till you can get on track. Cell phones, eating out, those things will increase your monthly expendenditures quickly. Buy store brand groceries, eat a home, pack a lunch if you work, make coffee at home, it take a lot of displince and comittment so you have to be strong and say no to something, for yourself and your son.

The best advice is to write down all of your fixed expenses, water, electricity, insurance, car payment, mortgage, phone, cell phones, and then start calling and see if there are cheaper alternatives for the same service.
