Question:

Tips on how to sleep?

I seem to have great difficulties going to sleep, and I'd like that to change for the next school year. Whenever I'd go to bed, I'd roll around and eventually FORCE myself to go to sleep. I'd say "Okay, ether I fall asleep now, or I'll be tired in the morning and fail at school". Saying this just makes me more awake. Any tips on how to get to sleep? Like reading before bed, no tv a hour before bed...etc.

Thanks!

  1. i have the same problem. Talk you your parents, guardian about sleeping pills or just try to not think about school, your mind will wander and you stress and keep your self up at night. what ever you do dont eat, everyone associates sleeping difficulties with being hungry and befor you know it over the 9 monthes of school youve gained about 20 pounds. also no pop, tv, phone calls, computer. eventually you can try these things but you have to make your self bored and then you will go to sleep. That takes me a while and my sleep pattern is WAY out of wack. school starts next week and im nowhere near ready.

  2. warm milk works as a tranquilliser it's especially good when used in chamomile tea, chamomile helps relieve stress and worry, if drank before bed can help you relax

  3. prolly relax your mind..think of happy thoughts because when u think of things you have to do the next day and worry about stuff b4 bed..then it really hard 2 sleep well.dont drink like juice..drink water or hot decaf tea ..warm milk maybe

  4. Some of us have trouble turning off our brain at night. I too have trouble falling asleep and go on one to three hours of sleep a night. thru the years I have tried about everything and have yet to find something that works. I do the reading, watching tv, counting sheep you name it I have done it. I even changed beds after a doctor said it was the bed well as you see i'm up late answering question so it did not work. I hope you find something if you do let me know. Good luck...

  5. well counting sheep probably not gonna work i would say well i saw watch the educational channel very boring reading a book maybe like a shakepsere book also very boring or do something like a hard math problem

  6. Try not to eat before bed or drink sugary drinks at least an hour before bedtime. This will make you hyper and probably you'll have trouble going to sleep.

A shower helps me before bedtime. It just seems to calm me down and help me relax. Hot water and steam clear your sinuses too which is good before bedtime because I have found my nose is stuffy in the morning.

If all else fails, like reading and no TV, you may have insomnia (I do). Then you need to go see a doctor.

    Hope this helps!

  7. Try not to think of sleep.

But don't think of something that you really want to happen, such as a daydream ( I usually daydream about living in a chocolate palace, and then I start thinking about all the archtecture and how many fondue fountains I have and, ugh, it really gets me thinking for a long time then I look at the clock and realize its like...2 AM.).

Drink some milk before bed. No tv and hour before bed.

Do some yoga. Have a night light. If you think you can't sleep because you are scared or afraid, keep the lights on. If there are distracting noises, listen to an ipod or mp3 players with not so fun songs.

just remember the most important rule: DONT THINK OF SLEEP!! DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT NOT THINKING OF SLEEP!

    so yeah :))

  8. Try not to have any sugar in the two hours before you go to bed. This is one of the leading causes of sleep deprivation.

Also, try to take deep breathes while you're trying to sleep. It calms down the body and gets it ready for bed.

Oddly enough, in a lot of people, thinking about sleep helps too. Just visualize yourself lying in the dark sleeping.

If that isn't for you just do your best to clear your mind.

If all this doesn't help, don't jump to the conclusion of insomnia. It isn't as common as everyone thinks.

  9. Get some strenuous exercise about 4 hours or more before you intend to go to bed (like walking or jogging a couple miles or more). By the time you're ready to hit the sack, you should be ready to fall asleep.

Don't take anything to invigorate you like Gatorade after you're done.
